terri has one percent and phil ping has 1%. so far mark a good night for ed lee. >>reporter: yes. i have to say about half hour ago this room was empty. they open the door just a few minutes ago. the place now pretty packed. the turn out today for the voting not nearly as hard as here. only a third of the absentee ballot returned as of yesterday. ed lee campaign is telling me they would be surprised to see a 35 percent turn out for the election and historically mayor race average closer to 50%. ed lee backer taking some comfort in the reports that absentee voting in the chinese american neighborhoods of san francisco coming in stronger than in other parts of the city. campaign spokesman telling me 60 percent of the voting may from vote by mail ballot which would be a new record for the city. and that when the absentee ballot come in they expect lee out in front. they also expect that he will do better in the absentee voting than he will in the day of election voting. that means if he does pull ahead early expect to see that lady di miniissue as today's votes are counted. >> rememb
