swim club in suburban philadelphia. they involve a group of minority children from a city day camp. the club in the mostly white suburb of huntington valley denies discrimination. but our philadelphia station kyw reports protestors say otherwise. >> reporter: the controversial decision sparked a community protest, and now the pennsylvania human relations commission is investigating. the anger now is even coming from some swim club members. they're outraged over their private club's decision to essentially kick out about 55 mostly minority children from the creative steps day camp. the kids, including 12-year-old marcus allen, swam at the pool on june 29th. they say at that time they heard racist remarks coming from other members of the huntington valley club. >> how they were like mad that black people were coming in here and how they didn't want these black people in here. >> saying what are all these black kids doing in here and how she was afraid we might do something to their child? >> it hurt our children, and it h

>> it's on the borderline of northeast philadelphia. northeast philadelphia until recently, the last ten years or so, has been the white area of the city. people that called me, some of them that were club members last night on my show said that they feel under siege. that was their excuse around this. and that they were driven from other neighborhoods in philadelphia. and that was the attitude internally of these people that caused all the ruckus. so what i think what happened here is, you had a guy well meaning who heads this club, he brought in these kids. i've run summer camps, and finding a pool, particularly this is a very nice one, for kids to come to is very difficult. the backlash that happened almost immediately is pretty shocking. there's not much subtly to this backlash. i think it was pretty direct, visceral and en masse on this guy. i think there was a lot of pressure on him. >> pam hayes, how about after all the reports about what happened, and people now understanding and people learning about it, can the folks at that p

today the governor is headed to philadelphia to learn more about federal money baltimore received to keep more police on the streets. the announcement actually will come later this morning from vice president joe biden and attorney general eric holder. with the violent weekend in baltimore where more than 23 people were shot this money could not come at a better time. it's part of the community-oriented policing services program or c.o.p.s. over 7,000 cities applied for it. baltimore is one of over a thousand cities actually selected to receive the money. the obama administration will give out $1 billion in aid to help cities and states keep police on the street during these tough economic times. for every dollar delivered another $7 in requests will unenanswered under the grant program. each state selected is entitled to at least $5 million in c.o.p.s. money. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. >>> police officers could soon have a more effective weapon to subdue out of control suspects. taser international has unveiled a new stun gun that can be used three times before its reloaded. stun g

a philadelphia area day camp says a private swim club made racist comments about their campers and canceled their swimming event. the club says it simply ran out of room. bianca solorzano reports for wjz with more on this controversy. >> reporter: the 65 mostly minority children, from philadelphia's creative step day camp, spent june 29th, cooling off at the private valley club. >> that hurts. how they were like mad that black people were coming in here. >> reporter: it's where they were planning to swim every monday through mid-august. but the first time they showed up, 11-year-old marcus allen says it was obvious he and the campers weren't welcome by some club members. >> they pulled their children out of the pool. >> camp director alicia wright says days later, the camp's $2,000 check, the money paid to swim at the club, was refunded, meaning the kids no longer had access to the pool. valley club released a statement, saying racism was not a factor. unfortunately, we underestimated the capacity of our facilities and realized that we could not accommodate the number of children from these
