this is a wild investigation in philadelphia. you see the smashed-up suv against the side of that building there. police were called to the scene after it crashed. they found out that the driver and the front seat passenger had both been shot in the head. the passenger was killed. the driver survived being shot in the head and was even talking to investigators when they everybody aed on scene. three people in the back of that suv ran away. one of them the suspected shooter. so police are searching for a killer this morning. no word yet on what prompted that shooting. >>> now, this other breaking story that we're following is a fire that is now a fatal fire in south philadelphia. we are looking live here at fire commissioner derek sawyer for philadelphia speaking to media there. can we listen in a little? >> i know it's an investigation. >> i didn't see a space heater in there. the fire started spreading -- >> so again, you heard him say right now they have no idea how this happened but this is a home on daly street in south phila

nbc 10 katy zachary is live in southwest philadelphia with more. katy? >> in just a few hours crews will arrive in this salt yard and load up their trucks with salt and hit the roads ready to attack this morning's storm. but one of the things they did ahead of today's storm is spray brine on the roadways. brine is a salt water mixture that prevents bonding to the roads and crews started spreading it throughout philadelphia sunday night. i'm told this year they will be spraying brine more often ahead of the storms. now, last year we had already experienced a handful of storms so they learned a lot. new this, the city tells me they're working on technology that would give them live pictures throughout philadelphia so that they can monitor weather conditions and then send out additional plows or salt trucks if needed. now, one thing the streets department did last year is prioritize where they salt and plow. roads around hospitals will get priority like market street and broad street would be plowed first. today because it is a school day and this is expect

not a whole lot in philadelphia.ngton and ocean county there are pockets where we've gone a lot higher. the highest official report is in brick township with 6-inches but that was at 1 o'clock in the morning and i'm sure by the time they come in with their final update it will be a lot higher than that. as we take a look outside we are looking at the action cam live and you can see that across most of the region especially in and around philadelphia and suburbs due north and out to the west and due south, hasn't had a lot of snow and pretreated surfaces have held up pretty well. so just wet roads here. as we look at temperatures, 26 degrees in philadelphia right now, 24 trenton, 25 allentown. there's a wind blowing giving you wimp in the teens so it's cold out there. and future tracker 6 shows you that that snow in and around philadelphia by 11 o'clock is probably clearing most of the region. there's the possibility of another little band coming down but that should really get off the map pretty early this afternoon.

nbc 10's katy zachry is live in the fox chase section of philadelphia. katem, tell us about the conditions there. >> reporter: hi, tracy. well, here in philadelphia most of the major roads, like central behind you and also cottman avenue, they were pretreated with a salt solution before the storm and since the storm, they were plowed. so they're really issue-free. there are no slick spots for me to report. and we were driving around the city for much of this morning. but here on the side roads, a different story. also on the sidewalks. you can see some of the snow pack here. that's because much of the sidewalks and side streets, they were not pretreated before the storm, and many of them have not been plowed. now, also black ice and slick streets were an issue for new jersey drivers late last night. this is video from haddonfield. drivers there tell us they've been forced to drive slowly since the storm because of the icy conditions. i did speak with police dispatchers in camden county just a few minutes ago. they tell me overnight there have been no maj
