i mean this is philadelphia proper. the frankfort section of philadelphia is philadelphia. it didn't derail near philadelphia it is in philadelphia. it's not quite in center city where 30th street station is but it is philadelphia proper. i'm going to get peter gels on the phone. he's a former ntsb managing director. what doion ionyou know about this? >> well i'm learning the information as you are, by the minute. but, you know, i can tell you that amtrak you know, over the last 25 years has eliminated all of the great crossings between new york and washington, d.c. there are a few left as we know north of new york city so this was unlikely to be a grate crossing accident. but when you -- the ntsb will be sending an extensive team up there. they're mobilizing now. and they should be there, you know within hours. and they're going to look at, clearly, mechanical issues, track issues switching issues and the driver performance. but clearly all the attention has to be on search and rescue and get as many of these injured out of the wreckage as soon as possible. >> i'm being to

the 7:00 train to philadelphia is on time. so that is good news, but keep in mind that amtrak service between d.c. and philadelphia is running on a modified schedule today because of the derailment. so you'll want to make sure to check. now, this is gate "f" where the 7:00 train is going to be leaving this morning. we talked to a few of the passengers over here who are actually scheduled to be on the 6:00 train which was in fact cancelled this morning. take a listen. >> i was scheduled to be on the 6:00 train this morning. i didn't find out until it was cancelled -- that it was cancelled until i got to union station. >> reporter: had you heard about the train derailment last night? >> i did, unfortunately. it's a tragic event. >> reporter: so you'll want to definitely check in advance either on the amtrak website, but if you you on the website you may get a message that says status unavailable. then you have to call the 1-800 number. expect to wait if you do that. i called -- literally i have been on hold for 53 minutes with a

in philadelphia. amtrak said on twitter that northeast regional train 188 had derailed derailed north of the city but amtrak did not provide additional information on this derailment on this accident. the train was traveling from washington, d.c. to new york city. there are multiple injuries reported on this train. we'll tell you about the count and what's happening at the hospital in just moments. but our affiliate, wpvi is reporting that about 200 people are on board this train or were onboard this train when it derailed. first pictures that we are getting now, this is from our wpvi affiliate in philadelphia. and these are from the scene. and these are the first pictures that we are getting in. this is videotape. and you can see, it is a very chaotic scene. there are people there who are -- who have been injured and getting a little information from them and treating some of them there on the scene and others will be taken to area hospitals. at least three area hospitals. hospitals in philadelphia s

here in philadelphia. if we can back out live, i want to show you what we have been able to see here from some of the damage. in terms of some of the damage here. if you look off in the distance you can see a power pole that's leaning to one side here. several power lines have been pulled down as well. the fire department amtrak they set up lights here so they can continue their work with the benefit of some artificial light. you can see as we understand it all seven of the rail cars and the engine went off the track here about 9:30 has night as the train pulled out of the philadelphia station. 238 passengers on board. five crew members as well. this was an amtrak northeast regional train. number 188. that left from d.c. about 7:00 or so. as the accident happened here and first responders started to arrive on the scene, we saw a total of 120 firefighters here at one point. some 200 police officers. and at this point we understand 140 of those passengers and possibly crew members as well were taken to area

we did talk to philadelphia mayor michael nutter. he came to reassure people that the work that was done expeditiously is safe the system is safe and he's glad that it's back up and running. this is the busiest corridor for train travel in the country. ace kristin shows you what it looks like outside the window the right side of the train. we talked to a passenger from delaware county to new york. i asked him if he had any trepidation, concern after the crash. he said, no he's sure they've done the work completely right and he's ready to just get back to work. he said there's money to be made. passengers don't seem to have a problem. as the mayor said look they've booked the ticket so they can't be that concerned. this is just a normal amtrak ride. it seems to be going about the speed that i remember maybe a little bit slower. right now we're slowing down but for the most part everything seems to be the way it is. i think we're getting to the north philadelphia station. i don't believe this is the station stop. remember, the crash oc

street near 47th here in west philadelphia.appears two juveniles from a nearby playground ran over, picked up some rocks and bricks and started throwing them at the bus. it only took one to cause some real damage shattering that window frightening those students and injuring that 20-year-old female. there were two assistants on that bus along with the driver who just spoke with police. >> he doesn't -- he was driving down the street. obviously there's two assistants with them. we haven't had a chance to talk to them. just driving down the street and here's the bricks hitting the vehicle aren't then he hears people screaming then stops the bus alerts the police and they take the kid to the hospital. >> reporter: police say the good news here, the incident was apparently caught on a city camera so they are reviewing that video. as we pan out here i can show you that this is the playground right there that police believe those two juveniles came from. again that 20-year-old school of the future special needs student was taken to p
