"nbc 10's" matt delucia is live on the scene where neighbors are being moved out of the blast zone. matt? >> reporter: those images bring back a lot of memories. those two buildings, they will come down as well. a fixture here in north philadelphia. two years of planning has brought us to these final hours. last night you saw boris out here capturing last-minute memories with photos. it's been here for 49 years. built back in 1957. it's expected to fall today in a matter of ten seconds. a lot of people have lived here and still did in recent years. they have since been relocated to other housing authority locations. the idea is to replace these buildings with more low rise town house units. there is a third building here on the property. that will stay and be renovated. we spoke with former residents, danita poland with one. she grew up with her grandmothers, even a great-grandmother here. >> it's like a piece of history. it's like a part of me is being blown up. >> this is like new

"nbc 10's" matt delucia is live in north philly this morning to tell us about the philadelphia housing authority'smatt? >> reporter: rosemary, now that the dust is settling, the work to rebuild is getting underway. mainstay here in north philadelphia for nearly half a century really came down in about ten seconds. watch. there was quite a crowd here watching on the ground from two, three blocks away. the two high rise housing authority buildings came down to make way for more than 1200 low rise housing units. in recent years former residents tell us it became a magnet for crime and poverty. this is not the first high rise implosion. eight pha sites have been imploded in the past. this is the ninth. pha moved residents to other locations, but i asked the president of the authority not long ago this morning if this kind of effort and the money they spend on it is working. you've had these implosions before. what results have you seen? >> well, in every case what we've had, implosions like this one, and we rebuild, we have put in -- we have put in its place beautiful quality affordable housing where,
