police here on scene in north philadelphia say it is very real.this pickup truck was driven by two plain clothesed philadelphia police officers earlier this morning. they were driving near broad street and brown when a black sedan hit them. the car did not stop. a witness was driving by, pulled over his car and got out. however, his car kept moving forward. we don't know if he didn't put it in park or what was happening. that's when two men who were walking in the area jumped in the moving car and took off with it. they drove a few blocks away where they crashed another vehicle and then the two men got out of that stolen car, ran to a nearby nightclub on brad street where they went inside and took off any identifying clothes they were wearing. we're told by some police out here investigating that one of the men was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt. when he went into that nightclub on brad street, he took that sweatshirt off so he couldn't be identified. police are still looking for those two men. as for the injured police officers who were in the u

nbc 10's katy zachry is live at philadelphia police headquarters with what we've learned about the suspect. katy, tell us more. >> tracy, this suspect's rap sheet is eye opening. detectives tell us he is being held here at police headquarters. they also say that he is0 expect to file charges formally against him in just a few hours from now. now, before this police shooting, griffin was arrested, as you said, over a dozen times, according to court records for things like drugs, weapons and theft. this is philadelphia police arresting him yesterday afternoon, after an hour's long manhunt in the shooting of officer james mccollough this weekend. griffin had been in jail just less than a week ago. but he was let go after a judge cited lack of evidence because several witnesses did not show up to testify. so he was let back on the street and that is when he's accused of shooting officer james mccollough who interrupted griffin and another man trying to steal a woman's car sunday night. >> that doesn't surprise me that he just sprung and tried to help her. he's always been that kind of person t

a philadelphia police officer was injured in a crash while on the way to help another officer. the responding officer's cruiser slammed into a carat 52nd and wymissing in west philadelphia. the 16th district officer will be okay. he was taken to penn presbyterian for treatment. >>> new someone shot a man 12 times outside a north philadelphia bar. the 23-year-old victim was critically injured the shots were fired outside of j and s tavern on the 2400 block of germantown avenue. detectives hope the customers can shed light on who shot the man and provide a motive. >>> breaking news from overnight sad news coming from maryland. a fire medic shot while answering a call died. a volunteer firefighter shot was rushed into surgery. police say the shooter was a person they were going to help. this happened at a house in temple hills maryland not far from washington, d.c. overnight the firefighters were identified. 39-year-old john omsnyder. the injured volunteer is kevin swain who is in serious condition. crews got a call that a person was unresponsive in a home. as they arrived they saw

it happened around 2:45 this morning and there are no arrests. >>> meantime, philadelphia police are trying to determine whether robberies at two 7-eleven stores are connected. they happened within half an hour of each other around 1:30 this morning robbers pistol whipped a worer at the frankfurt avenue store. they took cash and cigarettes. half an hour later around 2:00 a.m. an employee was pistol whipped inside a store at bridge and thompson streets in bridesburg. investigators are working with that store to confirm exactly what was stolen. so far there have been no arrests. >>> and off duty philadelphia police officer shot and killed a robbery suspect and this morning investigators believe that shooting was justified. the officer intervened when the suspect was robbing an elderly man at broad and chew streets in olney neighborhood. investigators say the officer yelled at the suspect to put down his gun. the two men exchanged words and police say the man refused to drop his weapon. the officer shot the man and he died at the hospital. >>> tomorrow, a jury will continue deliberation

so two plain clothes philadelphia police officers were in this pickup truck driving on broad street atbrown when a black sedan hit them. that black sedan kept driving. so a witness to the crash stopped his car, got out. i'm just learning from police he didn't put it in park. he just got out of his moving car because he seemed to be frightened by the whole crash that had taken place in front of him. so he started running and his car kept moving forward. two men who were walking on the sidewalk near all of this commotion, apparently, jumped into that moving vehicle. suv you're seeing in the video. they jumped in that white suv. they're in essence stealing a car from a crash scene, they drove several blocks away from that initial crash scene where they then crashed into two vehicles right near 15th and parrish street in the fairmount section of philadelphia. then witnesses to that second crash saw the two men run from that white suv into a nearby nightclub on broad street where they apparently went in and took off any identifying clothes they were wearing. one witness told police that one
