philip randolph institute in san francisco. my career includes almost a 16 year career with the san francisco district attorney's office. for the past eight years i've had the opportunity to serve district eight in many community and workforce programs. i feel that many of the issues the police department is working to over come needs to have a community person that has involved themselves with experience with youth, someone who's on the ground every day. i am supporting d.j.buchter to be supported, to be appointed to the police commission because i believe his experience to this commitment, to community and perspective on community is very much needed to help the commission's effectiveness. as a bayview resident and homeowner, i can tell you that the community perspective that d.j.buchter has to offer is very much needed. and miss taylor, i, too, don't know you, and i worked at the d.a.'s office. you are an inspiration to young black women, and i appreciate you being here, yale and all. go bears, on that note. thank you very m

philip randolph helping the brothers of sleeping car porters, which my grandfather was a member. he graduated from high school. he enlisted in the marine corps during the cold war. but he also came back to his community, used the g.i. bill. he developed a pathway for education. associates of arts degree from oakland city college. then get a bachelors of science degree from san francisco state. but then, what i want most of all to say, is that he then carved his pathway, and barbara lee continues to remind us, that she is a social worker. well, ron dellums got his m.s.w. from the university of california at berkeley in 1962. yes, this manly man, this man of men, was a social worker that understood the needs of people who were vulnerable, a psychiatric social worker, where he worked in the department of mental health, mental hygiene, and taught at san francisco state. interestingly enough, he became a counsel member of which i did -- councilmember of which i did as well, at a young age, served for a short time. then in his 30's went to the united states congress and never looked ba
