[applause] >> thank you, phoebe. let's start from the basics. where did the term privilege as your framing it originate? >> great place to start. so privilege in a general sense is super old and the french revolution was about getting rid of privilege, but the sense i'm talking about in this book comes namely from it so they popularized understanding of peggy mcintosh, a feminist scholar peggy mcintosh 1988 i believe it was checklist, a paper that includes his checklist of where she uses her understanding of her disadvantages as a woman to understand her advantages a as a white person. the checklist includes some very, i don't have it memorized but it includes some profound insights and a few of the items seem may be more specific to automate her social class rather than to whiteness but many do seem pretty spot on and really all that much more, or similarly relevant today. >> i remember one example being i can show up late to the meeting and it, i will not worry it will affect negatively on my race. >> that was good. the only one i was associat
