the pricy picasso is with police and this afternoon a suspect is in custody. anser hassan shows us the evidence that helped lead to that arrest. anser. >> reporter: yeah. anne, san francisco police have arrested a new jersey man for stealing $2,950,000 picasso piece. but there are still a lot of unanswered questions. here's surveillance video of 31- year-old mark lugo. he was arrested last night in napa where he was visiting friends. he arrived in san francisco from new jersey on the 4th of july. the next day he walked into a downtown art gallery and stole the picasso sketch by just pulling it off the wall and walking out. he then took off in a taxi. surveillance video from a nearby restaurant helped police identify him. san francisco police tracked down the cab which led them to his san francisco hotel. that's where they found the sketch. >> through an interview of mr. lugo, obtained consent to search his hotel room, where they recovered the picasso undamaged without frame as the suspect had removed it from the frame prior to being taken into custody. >> repo

now to our developing story and other person responsible for stealing a one-of-a-kind picasso from a union square art gallery may have been caught on tape. this is a surveillance photograph of a man that appears to be walking down geary street in san francisco with a picture frame under his arm, this was recorded by a restaurant can --camera shortly after the picture was stolen from the art gallery. the restaurant owner talked with us about the video. >> that is him walking by, there is the picasso, there is a newspaper covering it. the description of the digest all this had no socks on, you can see that he has no socks, about 6 ft. tall. and that is it, we had it confirmed, that is the frame that it was in. he came from the art gallery, jumped a cab over here, and we installed the security camera because our items were stolen of a while back. we decided to install the security system because this arm was stolen but the picasso is much of the more valuable than that arm. >> the san francisco police say although the man does match the early description of the keys, the owner of the ar
