of thousands of students in pickens county now has a better outlook. corey davis tells us how the district is making progress, after a risk of losing its accreditation. corey: i spent a lot of time going through this report about the pickens county school district. it's nearly 5o pages long, but it basically says that the school board is getting their act together, and that's good news for students and parents. the threat of losing accreditation become very real last year, when pickens county was given its second strike by a monitoring agency called advance ed. just the idea of possibly losing the status was scary for parents and students. one major downfall is that a child's diploma wouldn't mean anything after they graduated. advance ed said the leadership of school board members was a major problem. but now, all of that appears to be getting better. advance ed's latest report reveals that district leaders are taking steps to update policies, and attend training sessions. >> it's great for the students, anything, we should have positive reports comin

allyson: pickens county is refusing to have coal ash dumped at its landfills. a company called mmr pickens entered into an agreement with the county in 2007. it would allow construction debris to go into a landfill near liberty, but officials learned the company now wants to dump coal ash. county council voted no to it last night. geoff: the oconee nuclear power plant will go under inspection today after the discovery of degraded power cables. the nuclear regulatory commission will inspect the power cables for two of the plant's three units. the inspection will take several about thirty miles west of greenville. allyson: an update in anderson county, remember the police k-9 killed in the line of duty? they are working on a law in his name. he was killed october 21. three people have been charged. his handler deputy brandon surratt had been with hyco for six years. hyco was not only his partner but a member of his family. surratt says he is in full support of a bill in the works called hyco's and fargo's law. richland county in 2011. the law would increase priso

back toward pickens, there is heavy snowfall right now. asheville and hendersonville also has heavy snowfall. the sleet and snow will change over to freezing rain. at 33 degrees you can have snow, but what will happen is this temperature will drop to 32 degrees. warmer air will come into the middle of the atmosphere. that makes the snow freezing rain. what ever have on the ground spartanburg has heavy snowfall right now. asheville looks like a winter wonderland. we still have rainfall right now. the latest model is showing that snow line moving south. it will change to freezing rain between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. if the transition is later, you will get more snow. the bottom is snow, the middle is the ice, and later on tonight there will be more snow. needless to say, what ever you get it will be a mess from anderson northbound. this area south of greenville is the area of uncertainty. that freezing line may make it as far south as greenwood or it may make it as far north as the i-85. you need to be on guard because you could d impacted

allyson: new details now on a deadly house fire in pickens. the coroner has identified the victim as 81-year-old kathleen bagwell. this is video from sky 4 over the scene tuesday afternoon. the fire broke out at a home on ann street. there is no word on how the fire started. the coroners says bagwell's body was found in the back of the home. to hart county georgia now, a shooting involving an officer and a man with a machete. deputies say it happened last night on old reed creek road. authorities were called there for a domestic complaint. deputies shot a man after he reportedly confronted them with a machete. that man was taken to the hospital. he will be released into the custody of the sheriff's office. no deputies were injured. who was shot in the head months ago on the job is now at home. fellow law enforcement officers applauded deputy dave dempsey as he left the roger c peace rehab hospital yesterday. dempsey spent 41 days in the hospital. he's expected to make a full recovery with therapy. dempsey praised a fellow deputy for his action
