the piedmont city council has given tentative approval for a new sports complex. this is on the oakland border. the privately funded $6 million project would include a field for a soccer and baseball team as well as a practice field, parking lot and dog park. organizers have scaled back the original plan because of opposition from residents. critics are concerned about the environmental impact including cutting down more than 100 trees. >>> tonight santa clara and the 49ers are laying out their funding plans for a new stadium. this is the first of two public meetings. the city's stadium authority has secured $850 million in loans from three banks. the city would pay back the loans over the court of 25 years through ticket sales, rent from the team and naming rights. critics worry that the stadium won't generate enough profit but the 49ers say they will make sure the debt is paid if there is a problem. >> and if they keep winning, i don't think that will be a problem. and they are winning. >>> 6:12. a new team of city safety work hitters one of san francisco's most
