kron4's jeff pierce explains ... repair crews are planning to literally the road. the water that has kept highway 37 in marin closed has finally receded and today caltrans has begun assessing the damage to the roadway. crews have been going along that part of the roadway that was flooded, drilling out sections to take core samples. they actually use a circular drill to drill out a part of the highway itself, the pavement, that way we can examine the pavement to find out the extent of the damage. it is not a highly technical assessment.hit it with a hammer and if it has a good resonate ring to it, it's in good shape. if you hit it with a hammer and it's kind of a thud then you know the pavement probably should be replaced.caltrans is looking at a number of short term fixes.maybe adding a little pavement to raise the profile a bit, or actually going in putting in some light weight concrete underneath the road bed and new pavement on top of that.the pumps brought in to drain the flood waters are silent today and caltrans intends to replace the small diameter drainage

police say this was a high-powered armor piercing pellet gun or air rifle that easily could have killedomeone and the police chief says here in the state of new jersey, it's considered a firearm. right around 7:00 last night police say someone was driving on route 49 near the sunoco where the food truck is park. at least one shot was fired. possibly more. pellet struck the food truck. police have cut out where that pellet was that's why you see a square on the side of the food truck. the shot barely missed several people standing outside no one was hurt but the owner told me that his family could have been hit. >> actual mile brother-in-law was standing where you are, he actually leaped in fortunately he was leaned in at the time and several customers heard a boom. when they heard that boom, everybody oh, no, i know that wasn't what i think it was. and they ran out and, yeah, nice little hole. >> reporter: this is very busy food truck since we've been here for the past hour and a half many people have been here and police say right now they don't have any leads as far as the vehicle tha

in san jose jeff pierce kron four news.s you can help those affected by the flooding in san jose. you can find them through the kron four website... you can click the link on the front and it will bring up all the agencies that are helping. san jose says the biggest need is money... and so far it has received more than 100- thousand dollars in donations. there are problems in the east bay as well. it is not major flooding ... but roads getting washed out or covered in mud. tesla road which is out near livermore.. is closed from cross road.. to the san joaquin county line today. officials with alameda county say, it could be some time before it reopens. here is why. part of the roadway washed out during the most recent storm. you can see from this picture... that a chunk of the road has crumbled and is gone. crews spent the day trying to shore it up. caltrans says... it had a busy day clearing mudslides along highway -84 near fremont... better known as niles canyon road. this was one of several slides it had to remove. traff
