i want to thank soma pilipinas and rich hillis planning department for their work and the arts commission and many others for feedback. ime rrp confident we will have everything we need to work together toward a gateway or significant cultural marker. at committee we made maiments because of the importance of incorporating additional feedback i have amendments to offer today. i and for forbearance. in consideration of the community patience throughout this process i like to pursue the path of least resistance and make a motion to amend with the following language which you have before you but i'll read into the record now. in the long title, resolution expressing support for permanent cultural monument. atds the words and public realm art work resuming for the filipino cultural heritage district urging the arts commission to commission new works that center voices and stories that strike reflected and replaced by the current add civic art collection such as it voices that reflect filipino cultural identity and finding the soma pilipinas gateway project add [indiscernible] visually up-lift

david wu with soma pilipinas. since the pandemic, there has been a recognition of the huge contributions and significance to neighborhoods across the city of small businesses and neighborhood commercial corridors with the previous sustained impacts of gentrification from the second tech boom, small businesses were already hugely struggling to stay afloat in the city. with the pandemic, many more small businesses were forced to close. at the same time, the pandemic highlighted the wealth inequality in the city, with those already struggling with precarious work, low wages and high rent facing even worse situations. the city and the planning department must continue its pledge to support our neighborhoods, small businesses and renters as we come out of the pandemic and recover the upzoning plan being proposed effectively does the exact opposite of that. it targets commercial corridors for upzoning, promising further displacement and hardship of small businesses at a time when affordable housing is what is desperatel
