crews are still on the scene tonight of a fast moving brush fire in pittsburgh. it appears to have started in a warehouse for the pittsburgh theater company off john henry johnson parkway. we got a map to show you exactly where that is. here's the fire. there's that parkway, and there is highway four quickly spreading, coming close to homes. it's sparked shortly before five, burning at least 55 acres. nbc bay area's emma goss joins us live in pittsburgh with the latest from cal fire. emma terry. fire crews are still out here working late tonight. they did manage to stop forward progress of the fire several hours ago, and there was no need for any neighbors living nearby to evacuate. but these wind gusts that we're experiencing tonight are giving neighbors and firefighters a bit nervousness. the flames spread quickly this evening in pittsburgh, battling the fire from the ground and the air. within a couple hours, cal fire and contra costa county firefighters had it under control. the helicopters were like on top of the house, we seen like this red smoke that they

yeah, this happened in pittsburgh crawfords charles clifford has that story. >> well, here in pittsburgh on monday morning, a 2 alarm fire sent a column of smoke into the air that could be seen for miles and 2 people were sent to the hospital just after 8 monday morning. firefighters responded here to the pittsburgh park apartments along crestview drive on reports of a structure fire. >> crews arriving on scene found this 2 story apartment burning resident on the ground floor was able to get out. but 2 people, a 15 year-old girl and adult men were trapped on the second floor. neighbors could see them in a window. fire crews entered the building using ladders and were able to get them out. the mail was brought down. a lot of that you see behind me with the parkers and the juvenile was brought downstairs. both were unconscious when they came out, our paramedics went to work and we have a local looks like they're doing pretty well. they're going to critical. but they're doing the fire response was upgraded to a second alarm but only took crews about 20 minutes to bring the blaze under contr

now, this is all happening at an apartment complex on crestview drive in pittsburgh. our bob redell joins us from the scene. and bob, neighbors say a father and a daughter had to be rescued from that fire. correct. neighbors say this is a father and a juvenile daughter who we believe is 14 years old. sadly they are both in critical condition. this is according to the fire department after they were taken from their apartment complex here. that unit right there, you can see that was burned up this morning. the man was breathing on his own on the way to the ambulance, but i watched rescuers perform cpr on the daughter, and we've learned that they were able to get her pulse back, which is very encouraging news. this is cell phone video of the fire shortly after it started, around 815 this morning. we're here at the pittsburgh park apartment complex, the contra costa county fire protection district tells me that a fire started on the first floor of that apartment unit. and then what it did is it sent heat and smoke up to the second floor. and you can see that smoke pourin

the pittsburgh theater company has been collecting since 1979. actually, being here today and seeing it in person, i just, you know, words fail me. we had, you know, military uniforms, band uniforms, wedding dresses that people had donated over time. other formal wear, a lot of types of things that people just don't have in their own closet. the warehouse caught fire yesterday afternoon when flames quickly engulfed the building before spreading to the grassy hillside. 55 acres burned before firefighters could contain it. the cause is still under investigation with our fire investigators. the fire did start in the building and spread to the vegetation, but as far as how it started in the building, it is still under investigation. we have to replace absolutely everything that you would think of, microphones, lighting equipment, tools that we use to build our sets. it's all gone. michael wilson is the company's technical director and is part of the cast of the upcoming production the sunshine boys. wilson says fortunately, the crew picked up some of

we're in the city of pittsburgh. just went in there a couple of engines went in there to do fire watch on this brush fire. that is out, but they just want to make sure nothing were to flare back up. this was a 55 acre wildfire that started just before 5:00 last night. you should be able to see this in the video. it appears to have started in a warehouse for the pittsburgh theater company, located inside this park off john henry johnson parkway. a firefighters with con fire and cal fire. they had it under control within a couple of hours. no structures damage, as far as we know, but with the gusty winds yesterday, people who live in a nearby neighborhood were getting pretty nervous. the helicopters were like on top of the house, we seen like this red smoke that they put down to stop it. definitely a scare. it's been a busy week for us. it's a good reminder that fire season is upon us and people need to be, be ready. and last wednesday, the crystal fire and saint helena scorched 60 acres. and the weekend before, firefi

crews in pittsburgh have been spread thin. responding to two large fires in just two days. yesterday, a fire at a warehouse used by the pittsburgh theater company spread to a dprasy area and then today, flames broke out in an apartment complex on crest view drive. firefighters rescued a man and a girl from a second floor. they were found unconscious. they are now in the hospital in critical condition. a neighbor tells us how other people in the complex rushed to try to help. >> the locals are trying to, they are breaking in the fire extinguishers to try to help. within 10 minutes the, the fire department got here. they are kind, really kind people. would not expect that to happen. >> a third person jumped out of a second floor window, not hurt. the cause of the fire is under investigation and firefighters are weary about what lies ahead this summer. >> it is a heavy fire season. we had a 50 acre fire yesterday in pittsburg, we are still on the scene of that, this is starting to be busy already. >>> firefighters say we should be cautious about using lawn mowers and weed eate
