i spoke with elise saunier with the placer county's sheriff's department. so when we first got reports that this fire was happening, our our deputies, along with fire personnel went around and checked campsites in the area, trailheads in the area. and in the process, they did locate four vehicles, and it was around 8:00 last night that we started realizing as we got in touch with the owners of the vehicles, the parents of the group that was out. we realized we had 13 hikers at that point. the fire had burned across the trail, so that's when we became really concerned about where these hikers might be. so from there, we started trying to do phone pinging to see if we could get their location, it's a remote area. we were not able to reach any of the phones. none of the pings were going through. none of the calls were going through. so at first daylight, the placer county sheriff's office helicopter launched. we knew the area that they were supposed to be in. and within 20 minutes of being up, our helicopter was able to find the entire group. they did a great

turning now to a fire in placer county in tahoe national forest. as of this morning, the royal fire has burned about 170 acres. no containment at this point. and there still an evacuation order out for the cedar area. thankfully, firefighters say the fire hasn't stretched to that area just yet, and no word yet on what started that fire. there is good news this afternoon, a group of 13 hikers are heading back home after they got stuck in the area near the fire. crews found the cars of these hikers parked near the palisades creek trail last night when that fire broke out, and this is helicopter video from the placer county search and rescue teams this morning. rescue teams were able to find the group camp just two miles away from the flames. with the help of a search and rescue team member team members. the hikers were directed away from that fire and to safety. meanwhile, a huge fire is burning in santa barbara county tonight. this is near los olivos, near highway 101. the lake fire has burned over 20,000 acres already since it sparked on friday. fi
