encourage active recognize yaks, whether it's the jerry garcia theater and the many courts and playgrounds in the park. it's also distinguished by the natural landscape. not just landscape, but san francisco original landscape. where golden gate park is nature, mclaren is what san francisco looked like and it reflects our natural habitat. i think one of the main challenges of mclaren park is really its circulation. by that we mean the safe and predictable movement of people, dogs, children, cars, bikes and other ways of transportation. and yet to be developed across the park and that's one of the things that has most been lacking in mclaren, certainly since i've been working in recreation and park department. that a clear set of policies and a real model for how to accommodate all the users and their movement across the park has been one of the most fundamental challenges. because while we're moving people across the park and accommodate and balance, we're also very much trying to protect the habitat and the natural features that make mclaren such an attractive place to go to, to visit. so

this shows the current asphalt path from the lewis sutter playground toward the rest of the park.we went out and did a site visit and the slope on that path is 19%. ada slope required allowed is much, much less than that. we're looking at realigning that path and looking into the possibility of making it firm and stable, but again a little more natural feel than asphalt. and we're also looking to reconfigure the asphalt path and steps closer to the man sel courts and we're looking to accommodate bicycles on a multiuse trail that meets ada guidelines, but we've worked with the guidelines in glen canyon park and golden gate park and there is lot to do to make it interesting and exciting. for some of the trails we're looking to realign or close in the area, would we use some of the natural features funding to scrape up the soil, to put seeds in, to put erosion control to go back to grassland habitat. last but not least, the visitation avenue corridor. this is the area that runs from visitation and hahn intersection, up to the visitation avenue middle school. we worked with volunteers

we've got another playground that was built by the parents and the children. they designed it. it was built with the help of lucas film and disney. we have a full nba gym that can be divided into two smaller gyms. we are in partnership with drew school. drew school came to our rescue because we had to have an unemcouple bettered site to build this. we had a half a million mortgage at 10% interest and drew paid it off. [ applause ] >> whew. so we've continued to do what we've also done which are programs for young people and after-school programs for those young people between the ages of 5 and 18. we have a mind/body health center now in addition to the gym, and we have a music studio. so we're ready to go. the other thing we do, is we teach cycling. and we have 50 bicycles. and we have a cycling center downstairs. we teach kids how to navigate the streets of san francisco. and we teach them how to do minor repairs. you will notice that the two principal things we have, cycling, which is -- which is one of my passions, and radio, which is another one, are here in this center. i
