programs on any playgrounds. we've designed each to compliment the play found. the first piece connects the two playground with a forest of lighting fixtures spread across each playground. we call them pixel poles. they animate and grow like they have captured fog inside them. when visitors move in front of the poles, they lite up and slash with colors. the pixel poles have custom lighting fixtures created specifically for these playgrounds that exist nowhere else. the second project covers the plaza right in front of you all between the playgrounds. we call it carl. we wanted to ask, what if san francisco's fog settled down in the plazs to play wi-- plaza th visitors. he likes to connect to different groups of people, so you may see the light forming connections across the plaza. it takes a great and ad venturo adventurous team to make this happen. this is a new combination of public instruction with custom hardware and software. they can grow and aadapt as the city changes. for the next month we'll be watching

specifical specifically instrumental to reopen the civic city playgrounds on february 14th. the renovation is part of the partnership leveraging funding and project management provided by the trust for public plan to help support let's play san francisco initiate. let's play sf is an initiative for 13 playgrounds most in need identified and prioritized by a citizen task force. it's located in district six. the goal of the project is to renovate and upgrade the existing playground, so the infrastructure and site features meet the current public needs and applicable codes and regulations. the trust for public land has generously offered a grant up to $500,000 for this project. in august 2017, the recreation and park commission approved this grant and then in november 2017, the commission approved the concept plan. now the trust for public land and rec park are working on a more detailed design and construction documents. i can show you a few slides to show you some visuals. this is the concept plan for the ground. this shows it's part of the let's play initiative. this helps t

yesterday we celebrated the new helen diller playgrounds which we hope you saw as you were working iney were made possible by a generous $10 million foundation from the foundation and with the ongoing partnership with the trust for public land. this is the third city play grounds renovated through the helen diller family foundation. the two were predecessors to this one. it is one of several projects we partnered on with hays valley, balboa park and hill tom and the relake ship goes back farther with the partnership projects. buchanan mall is another one we are working on with gpl. we were in district 6 yesterday and we were joined by three amazing kids who spent a lot of time at bodecker and are involved in the boys and girls club. the city invested more than $30 million in the park improvement this is the last several years including not just civic center, south park and we have upcoming work at the sergeant mccoy playground and the mini park. they were opened in honor of may your lee. i was -- mayor lee. i was with them when we showed him the design. he was so excited but he said w
