and when the public housing developments were torn down, about 300 units at plaza east, only 200 units were built, so it was clear that not every resident was going to return, and in fact, so many never did, and here, fast forward, i ended up on the san francisco redevelopment agency commission, entering a time when we were dealing with the shipyards, and the revitalization of double rock, and one of the things that i had expressed along with so many others that was so important, when we were looking at changing the face of public housing, revitalizing public housing all over san francisco, we had to make sure that we did not repeat -- repeat the mistakes of the past. so providing an opportunity to allow residents to not be displaced and move out of san francisco and out of the communities that they spent their entire lives in was so critical to the success of moving these projects forward. fast-forward, when i became a member of the board of supervisors, mayor ed lee was the mayor and the first conversation we had was my priorities. he said, what's your priority, and i said, public ho

i grew up in housing and plaza ease and the conditions of plaza east for over 20 years of my life whereere similar to the conditions that exist right here in west side courts. before this renovation and when i first became supervisor i met with mayor ed lee and talk to him about housing and why we weren't meeting our obligation as a city to invest in housing in a way that would allow people to live in dignity it was very personal for me because of my own personal experience in frustration and so nothing was more important to me than trying to focus on making the kinds of changes that will better the conditions of the people who live here. merely agreed him. we worked really hard and the rad program is something when awesomely was director of the mayor's office a housing we brought that idea to the community and a lot of folks were apprehensive of course because commitments had been made in the past but the follow through has has not happened but because of that work. i'm so really proud that we are renovating over thirty five hundred housing units all over the city and changing really t

( darya ) because of the wet weather cal-trans has delayed construction work on the richmond-san rafael bridge. the repairs were supposed to begin this week... in an effort to prevent more concrete from falling onto the lower deck in the future. crews saying they have to replace the 31 sliding joints on the upper deck of the bridge. repairs are expected to begin once the wet weather ends. ( darya ) the rainy is weather is taking its toll on the santa cruz mountains.slide hundred foot section ofd runoff have undermined the pavement ... and part of the hillside above and below the slide. one lane is expected to reopen in a couple of weeks. ( james ) breaking overnight...police are investigating two separate shootings in oakland..one of them deadly. the first shooting happened around 6:30 last night in the 1500 block of east 16th street. a man died from his injuries in that shooting..no one else was hurt. a few hours later...two men were shot in the 2600 block of foothill boulevard. the men took themselves to a hospital...one of them was listed in critical condition this morning. police have not made arrests in either shooting. a woman says a thief broke into her car and left something extra behind. ally williams says when she

plaza. richmond bridge drive less than 20 min from the toll to 101 ( james ) an east bay county is trying toideshows that have been a long-time nuiscance. the contra costa county public works department has installed about 100 raised pavement markers at troubled intersections. they are hoping the raised markers will deter sideshow participants from coming to that area. the domes aren't large. they're about six inches wide and just less than 2 inches high. they won't stop people from driving over them ... but they can damage your car. ( james ) public works and law enforcement will be working together with neighbors to determine the effectiveness of the

plaza. richmond bridge drive less than 20 min from the toll to 101 ( darya ) breaking news we are following out of the eastn danvill are on the scene of a cra that crashed intoa building. you can see by this picture the car crashed through the "fsh and fire" restaurant. nobody was injured. we'll be back with more news after the break. p-g and-e will not face criminal charges related to the 20-17 wildfires in the north bay. the sonoma county district attorney's office made the announcement yesterday. they say there is not enough evidence to prove p-g and-e acted with a reckless disregard for human life. which they say is the standard to sustain criminal charges. last year --- calfire did determine that p-g-and e's equipment caused numerous fires in four counties. however -- p-g and e remains on federal criminal probation. and they are facing several pending lawsuits related to the fires. ( darya ) it was an emotional day for oakland city councilwoman lynette gibson mcelhaney as she spoke for the first time about her son's murder. victor mcelhaney was shot and killed during an apparent robbery attempt last w

east bay... investigators believe slick roads played a factor in a crash... that killed three family members. it happened on interstate- 80... not far from the bay bridge toll plaza yesterday. the family's car crashed into a big- rig stopped on the side of westbound interstate- 80 in oakland maze. two women and a man died in the crash... a 17 year old was taken to the hospital. police say... the teen is related to the three people who died. they also believe speed may have been a factor in the crash. (robin) we now know the identity of the victim who was buried by the landslide at fort funstson in san francisco. here are pictures of the woman. 22- year old kyra sunshine scarlet was walking with her dog and a friend, when a landslide happened. her friend and the dog both made it out alive.however ... scarlett's body has yet to be found. originally from florida and utah, she had been living in oakley at the time of the landslide.
