can you imagine what the rugged areas in the poconos and catskills would do with 10 inches of rainfall? there's the threat there. the threat for new york city is clearly if you take all that water and pile it up in the harbor and take it and push it around into the north part of long island, long island sound there, that is all going to have to go to one place, the east river. the east river goes up and all of eastern manhattan floods, williamsburg and that's right where laguardia is. water tries to rush from two separate directions and it can't do it very long without rising. i suspect we'll be wet not with rain but saltwater because of the water getting pushed in from the ocean by tomorrow. >> different areas to be worried about. chad, thank you. we'll continue to check in with you. now to brian todd in wilmington, north carolina. brian, what are conditions like where you are? >> well, we're just getting hit with the outer bands of hurricane irene. you can see how bad it is here. we're getting whipped by wind and very strong rain in wilmington. we're on the edge of the cape fear rive

here and a lot of flooding that causes a lot of damage to areas in new jersey and area around the poconos and now some of the rivers will crest near or above their all-time records because of the amount of rain we have seen over the last month. that a barbecuin is a big conc. the flash flooding concerns continue. anywhere you see the dark color, the catskills up in towards th the adirondacks. residual flooding with continue for a number of area and then turn our eyes to the next storm. there is a jose. not going to have any impact on anybody except a little breezy in bermuda. that could have impacts for the eastern part of the u.s., not for a couple of weeks. we will have plenty of time to talk about it. >> shepard: watching your loop i guess of the infrared satellite loop and show there's is more rain coming. if you watch the last picture here, there is atlantic city. looks like new york city is going to get hit again on the backside of this thing. >> one last brand of rain that moves through from the storm. the win wheels, that cycle on through and move through the area, we have one las

for the northeast, all of the computer models at this point, piers, either from boston over to the poconos, but new york city is right in the middle. >> chad, just explain to me, as a layman, about this kind of thing. what is the probability now given all the computer projections that you've been looking at, what is the probability today that come sunday, new york city could get hit by this hurricane in a direct hit? >> that is the forecast. and so it would have to turn left or turn right to be wrong. and so the chance of that is at least of it happening is at least 50/50. there's a 50% of it chance being left or right, but reasonable the cone, the center of the cone, that we tell you never to look at, but that's the forecast. that's the true points that the hurricane center has been looking at now for days and days and days. that's the likely place that the hurricane goes. right through cape hatteras, or just off to the west, and right along the jersey shore, right over coney island, and into the hudson river. could be straight up the hudson river and then across into massachusetts as an

i am a big fan of the pope in los -- poconos. we have an incredibly inefficient health care system. in this country, we spent two times per person other industrialized countries spend on health care for worse results on average. we spend a lot more money and get worse results. how can we have a more efficient system that delivers better results for less money? how do we get people health care? how do we deal with the obesity crisis? how do we change the underlying model for doctors and hospitals? that will lead to more procedures over time if they get paid per procedure. we will be able to spend less time with the hard work of the lower income people, of who pays the bill if you have an efficient system. host: the next call is from bob, a republican. caller: my question is pretty simple and straightforward. now that the government has their budget and has raised the debt ceiling, i would like to know if they are planning to extend the unemployment benefits because of the way the economy is today. guest: that is a very good question. this member of congress would support an extension
