the police union has tentatively agreed to continue a 10% pay cut for another year and a half. officers and other city workers took the pay cut earlier year to close a $115 million budget gap. even with the paycuts, 66 officers and hundreds of other workers were laid off. >> today the santa clara vta is expected to award a major construction contract. and gil diaz is in fremont with more on the planned extension. the planned extension is -- passengers would like to see an extended route from here to san jose. one man lives in san francisco and he says he would like the luxury of visiting san jose whenever he wants. the board meets at 8:30 this morning to vote and hopefully approve a construction project contract worth about $772 million. now, it may sound like a lot of but it's about $75 million less than what vta estimate it would cost. also, the construction could be done by late 2016. that's more than a year ahead of the original projected deadline. now, vta board members are excited about the extension because it will bring thousands of jobs to the project. it will bring 46
