meantime, we've got phil keating right now in port everglades, florida, on those two ships coming in.sick patients on them. one has at least four dead. in florida, i guess the issue is who will take them, if anyone? reporter: that is correct, neil. by the way, the governor is talking live right now and that stay-at-home order for the entire state goes into effect tomorrow night, 11:59 p.m. as for the two ships, holland america's zaandam and rotterdam, they are sailing in tandem between cuba and miami right now, all on their hopeful journey to here, port everglades and fort lauderdale where the cruise line is banking that a decision eventually gets made that will allow these ships to come to shore sometime tomorrow. at this point, that is uncertain and not resolved. they don't know exactly how to handle these ships and the 2500 men and women on board the ships, with the passengers all in self-isolation in their cabin. nearly 200 people on board have had at some point flu-like symptoms on the ship. some have tested positive for covid-19. many have improved over the past week or two. the

you do not want the ships to dock in port everglades. why not? >> good morning. thank you for having me on your show this morning. we were not against the ships docking in our community. the problem is that no protocol has been established yet to allow these folks to come off the ship. we are in a midst of a humanitarian crisis here. no one denies that. john, let's face it, we have sick people there and we have well people. but we have to be able to allow people to step off the ship and be able to return to families, whether in florida, anywhere in this country or anywhere around the world. but we cannot do it willy-nilly. we have to be sure we're taking precautio precautions. i've been listening to your show this morning looking at the pervasiveness of this contagion. there can be no missteps in this process. >> right. >> you may -- in oakland, the port of oakland, california, what did they do? they systematically removed people from the ships and those people that were not symptomatic, they were quarantined for 14 days. those that were symptomatic or suffering

rosa flores is joining me now from port everglades in florida. wolf asked the vice president about the situation in florida. the vice president really didn't answer when he was asked about the governor and his decision to not do a statewide lockdown, a statewide stay-at-home order, rosa. what is the situation there? >> reporter: you know, democratic leaders here, the agriculture commissioner, experts have been pressuring governor ron desantis to issue a statewide order, but instead, what he has done, he has focused on some of the hotspots. first of all, issuing a mandatory isolation period for any airline travelers coming into the state of florida from new york, new jersey, connecticut, and later, louisiana, and then also issuing a regional stay-at-home order. that includes miami-dade, broward, palm beach counties, and monroe county as well. but kate, a lot of the experts and the people criticizing the governor have said that that's too little, too late, because a lot of the local governments had already issued safer at home orders. governor desa
