so, for years the portola and it's the portola, foster recognition.happening. one of the things that gave attention to our neighborhood is when we decided we were going to have a new branch library. ruth wallace came up with the idea of a garden tour and a lot of us thought, a garden tour? our neighborhood? who is going to come? well, we had every -- we've done it for six years. every year we've grown incrementally. after the first two years of raising money for the library -- there's our new library -- we then it was such a great community builder that we recently decided to keep wanting to volunteering and do it. we established a scholarship at city college for the horticultural department. and we have just gone gangbusters. we get good press and we get to see everybody's neighbor -- all our neighbors' gardens. because of the way san francisco s you get to be veuyer because usually you have to go through their garage or their house to see the gardens. and ruth gets known through the neighborhood because she's constantly peeking over fences and leavi

i'm here to represent the asian immigrants in the portola district. many asian immigrants have to go to chinatown to receive services, but they need services in our own neighborhood. sscc with little to no funding has done a lot with what we have, low income, senior housing, social security benefits, job-training, esl, computer classes. what we need to see is more funding for these programs from the city because we need to have a voice as well. i'm glad that we have a lot of latino immigrants here represented but we also need asian representation as well. thank you so much for coming. - and i see some folks here - the portola is under one district, it is important to make sure that there is a unified voice. of course we are here in the mission, one of the most vibrant and happening neighborhoods in the city but at the same time challenges that we face here in the nation. of course myrtle heights, we have a number of folks in myrtle. we have these three neighbors working together to identify priorities. i want to highlight a couple of points is really important as we think about this budget. i think a big issue for us is clearly what is happening with the dept. of pub. health and i see barbara garcia who is here. there are significant cuts to the dept. of pub. health and these cats unfortunately have the potential to impact some of the most vulnerable people in our community. even though this in an effort to make sure that we don't cut homeless services, some of the largest cuts focus on residential treatment programs which are receiving a reduction of about 3.1 million. because of that we are talking about many residential treatment beds that are currently occupied th

we basically run on the north either from caesar chavez and we come off portola down towards ocean avenue. those are the 6 1/2 square miles that we encompass. these are the foot beats here. you can see there is the 46 which is down along -- leland avenue. we tend to focus our foot beat activity along bike patrol and along the business corridors. they are very helpful and we receive positive feedback from the community regularly about the performance of our foot beat. they are very engaged and many of them will speak tonight about their relationships with the neighborhood. >> 46 on leland. we have an officer who is cantonese speaking and there are very many chinese merchants. they go to the asian community center and they will set themselves up there at 11:00 most days of the week so if anyone wants to talk to them they can have a regular meeting time otherwise their on patrol and talking with the merchants. i was there, and not many showed up here, nobody came. we grabbed the people from the center and did a merchant walk and met them at their businesses. they didn't want to close earlier
