[cheering and applause] >> before we get into our program, i want to acknowledge mr. tom phillips, who could not be here this evening but i attended this event for almost my entire life and i remember

another thing, i noticed there was a jewish history for russian hill and excelsior portola. well, i'd just like to acknowledge excelsior portola community was not particularly long lived nor particularly important in the jewish community nor were the russians before the 1970s, when the soviet union started to break up, and so i do think it would be better to focus on the jewish community that drove it or were influential. i would suggest the cosmopolitan, and the founding of wells fargo bank or our city, the jews of san francisco, or the house of harmony. i'm a little concerned that the project doesn't miss the most important elements of the community. that's -- and if i could help in any way, i could introduce you to the descendants of some of these influential families. but if i can help by keeping out of the way. that's what i'll do. >> thank you. in another case, our office has been working with the city departments to resolve a problem in the portola neighborhood where a team of developers got a permit to construct ten residential units but instead constructed 30, creating a tangle of violations. and then, there was the case of a demolition on [indiscernible] street. while planning considered it an unpermitted demolition which required it to go before the commission for post demolition approval, d.b.i. determined it was not an up lawful demolition, and just a year ago, the city paid a settlement for a development in bernal heights with slipping foundations and more. these are just some examples that we have in district 9. i know some of you have cases in your districts, as well. there are laws in place to penalize serial offenders after the fact, but i'm working on legislation now to make sure the penalties fit the crime, but i think we all know that even those who have clear histories of noncompliance are still engaging in construction outside or beyond permits. what the expanded compliance control and consumer protection ordinan

we sent notice to all of the neighborhood associations within 600 feet for three years, portola, visitation valley and excel seer. we had 300 feet of the facility and we of course noticed all three supervisors' offices and nine, 10 and 11. we had a dialogue with supervisor ronen and answered all of her questions. and so we tried to go -- we did a courtesy e-mail to the available e-mail list. we tried to go above and beyond to renotice everybody for a full second time. we took a direction from your council that not to just renotice the supervisor but everybody. there was no further appeal of any kind and so we would encourage you to affirm the department of public-health, the planning department and the department of public works and i want to tell you that they all reissued their findings so any errors in the planning department process was remedied, the department of public works also issued a new final determination so the whole process was redone and and the # r1 area and i'll repeat, you remember, we just are putting a cross bar on this pole. the nearest residents, the exposure will be
