at 10 charlie began education at brett heart elementary and later portola junior high school. he was a bright student he struggled in conform to rashth norm and behavioral issues made him have challenge in school. when he was 14. decided to ends his school career. forged birth certificate and enter the airforce. he criminalitied time in the -- aelectronicallies time in the armed forces as the spark that would lead him in acvichl for black people those residing in the southeast sector of san francisco. charlie did 3 years in the airforce. and returned to san francisco before his 18th birthday. once home, he fathered 2 children. . moved by the jazz scene in the fillmore, he taught himself to be a drummer. played different gigs in night clugs in the fillmore. it was in one of those club this is charlie met his wife. they marryod april 16, 1959 and through this union 3 daughters were born. the couple will remain married until his death. propping his 30's. charlie noticed the economic challengers and exclusion of african-americans in san francisco's construction industry. he spoke

you know this came from cal trance grant and it is an in depth study in to transportation needs in portola and visitation bus, pedestrian safety and street redesign there was a packet of things. [inaudible]. council members were impressed by detail and the aim of footwork and the cal trance active transportation plan grant. and we are satisfied happy that staff brought a draft as a plan part of the presentation documents. there was a question survey information which is a theme. many want that as a draft in the council before it goes to full board. we have suggestions. there was talk about [inaudible] long-term plan to change the safety there. which the train on sunset runos. there is a high school there. and so some suggestions about new sidewalks when school is out there are students that come out and want to go in the street and the council members who direct experience there and suggestions about putting the bicycle lanes on the center where well is a median similar to how it is on the panhandle. one recommendation is to approve the plan. we like it. questions about we know there is st
