we're talking about a portuguese man-o-war. looks like a jellyfish but it's far from it. one turned up on the beach in harvey cedars over the weekend. it has a severely painful sting and can be deadly. they're usually found in the tropics but on rare occasions they can find their way to our area. beach patrol captain randy townsend found the man-o-war and posted an alert on facebook. >> it can be a nasty sting like scalding you with hot water. >> it's highly probable that we're seeing more of these show up on our beaches in the next week or so. >> it normally floats on the water's surface, but be warned experts say they can still inflict an excruciating sting after they've watched up on beaches. >>> a hot day today. we were in the 90s again. tomorrow we're going to be hotter. so first lert weather tomorrow is out because of the heat and also the severe storm chance across the area. tomorrow's going to be hotter than today which would lead us to near-record heat. then severe storms possible in the afternoon. and i think the highest threat with that would be damaging winds.
