wake county schools spokesman bill poston says something else that's not easy: keeping drivers. "we have been busy trying to recruit drivers. the thing is, when the economy improves, people often look at other jobs that pay a little better and they don't have to double shift. it's a demanding job." fewer drivers mean fewer bus stops and a shuffling of routes, even as the number of students keeps growing: 2-thousand more are expected this year. 2013-and-14 school year. that number downshifted to 825 last year. and this year, the number stands at 760. what students will see are buses that are fuller, but not overcrowded -- school officials say that would be unsafe and against the law to exceed maximum capacity. poston says the district has spent the past three years working to make busing more efficient and still get kids to class on time.
