the humble pothole. here's martin friend. potholes are the bugbear of every road user.s there are more now than ever. they are the cause of a big spike in breakdowns this time of year. it seems everyone who uses the roads has a story to tell. butjust how bad is it? i've come to northampton, i'll meet someone who has made it his mission to rid our roads of potholes. you can't make it out now, but at this very spot five years ago there was a massive pothole in the road. tell me what happened here. it was a dangerous pothole on that bend. people were trying to avoid it, because obviously they did not want to damage their vehicles, but we have heavy goods vehicles coming along here. i reported it to the council and nothing happened. i reported it to the police and it was repaired within two hours. i needed to make sure i could do everything i could to make sure no one was injured. that's what started your passion to rid the roads of potholes? i thought someone has to stand up. we spend an awful lot of money on our taxes and get a decreasing quality of roads, someone needed

if you drive you might have noticed all those potholes on the roads. the city says the changes in weather create the perfect conditions for these holes to form. we were out on lincoln drive a bit earlier. bad spot there. the city says since january 1st 500 potholes have been filled between wane avenue and justine lake. i talked to couple of folks out here waiting for the bus. they say they love this weather. >> because i get off at 3:30 it's real nice to be outside when it's nice out. yesterday i came out and i was like oh, i can take my jacket off. >> i'm able to wear a hoodie as you can see. i'm usually wearing my long winter coat, so i'm just happy today i can wear a hoodie. >> reporter: another live look here at the bus station. some folks wearing a bit of lighter attire than they normally would for this time of february in the middle of winter. so those folks are really happy they can shed the heavy coats at least for now. but the weather certainly could be changing in the coming days as we've been hear from bill. from now i'm live here, matt delu
