the potomac is running pretty high.f you're planning on boating or kayaking on the potomac from west virginia down to the bay, the potomac is running high. stage of little falls is at almost eight feet. only a couple feet below the flood stage. if you're traveling today, fog here in parts of missouri and arkansas and oklahoma, north texas. farther west, they're getting rain in new mexico and arizona and parts of colorado. farther to the north and west, another pacific storm coming into washington state, oregon, idaho, and western montana with snow and rain there. look at this gorgeous sunset and waters of the potomac reflecting that sky. sunrise at 7:01. by noontime, mid-50s to near 60 by middle of the afternoon. clear tonight, down in the 30s by dawn saturday. another beautiful day tomorrow. on sunday increasing clouds, highs in the 50s. could get midday or afternoon or evening showers earlier in the day. out in the mountains in shenandoah valley. those showers may linger into middamon day. chilly weather moves in next

well the potomac river is made up of different branches and if you go out west there is the north potomac the south atomic. this happens lots of times and there's a protocol for that. either the deeper branch of the branch that goes and extends further is the branch that is referred to in such a boundary. the north branch of the potomac river does both, hence it's the boundary but it's not the boundary the surveyors surveyed. i'm sorry, the southern branch. the southern branch is the longer and the deeper. that should be the boundary but his surveyors surveyed the northern branch. they made virginia bigger then the charter really stipulated. and maryland challenged it. lord baltimore heard about this and challenged it. a number of things delay the challenge and then we come to after the revolution and now it's states going back-and-forth. at maryland faced a problem after the revolution was challenging it because one of the surveyors not many years back was a teenager really and towards washington. and george washington was the one mediating the dispute. . >> reporter: on the potomac river just outside washington, d.c., two kayakers were in search of thee rush that comes from surfing a white water wave. you might not have guessed that 21-year-old todd love in the front seat was a triple amputee. love, a u.s. marine, blows both legs and one arm just over a year ago when he stepped on an improvised explosive device in afghanistan. his father carried them to the river and an instructor placed anymore the kayak. he attached a prosthetic arm and when he entered the water, he was transformed. >> when i'm in the kayak, it definitely makes me feel free. something about being on the water. it's just... it's therapy. >> reporter: the organization that provides this opportunity is called "team river runner." the instructors are all volunteers. team river runner started small, about seven years ago with just a few kayakers out here on the potomac river. but in recent years with so many injured veterans coming home from iraq and afghanistan it's grown quickly. there are now chapters in more than two dozen states. many of the instructors are also i
