so we powered up our storm ranger, that's our mobile doppler radar.ee that right here on nbc bay area. the scan is live, so when you look at other stations, the radar and what you're seeing on there, is about two to five minutes behind what we're showing and also our storm ranger scans closer to the ground, so other radars may miss out on all the detail that we're seeing right here, so here is the red scan, parked on san bruno mountain. so far, the rain has been pretty light. as you get ready to head out the door in the north bay for much of sonoma county we're seeing showers and just north of santa rosa there's light rain coming down. if you're going north or south on 101 in that area, it is going to be wet at times. we're also seeing some light rain on the richmond-san rafael bridge and some spotty showers right over there by treasure island. as we head down to the south bay, some spotty rain, a couple of sprinkles, most of it over the hills, but as you drive up 101 coming from morgan hill, some light rain as of now. let's widen out the view and sho

we have some rain moving in and we powered up our storm ranger mobile doppler radar. that's really exclusive to nbc bay area. it's a mobile doppler radar, yeah, a radar on top of a truck, and it gives us a live scan of the rain as it falls from the sky. it's also lower in the atmosphere, and so as it comes through, it's picking up on every single raindrop that's falling, and we can zoom on down to the street level. this makes all the difference, because with the live scan, you're watching the other stations, they're about two to five minutes behind us, and that makes a big difference if you're getting ready to head out the door. we are getting a look at the rain, as it approaches the north bay. here is a look at ukiah, as that rain starts to move in. lot of greens here. we're also seeing some yellows and reds, which indicate some heavier rain, and this is going to make its way down to ukiah within the next 30 to 40 minutes, while the rest of the bay area still dry right now, and this is a live look at christmas in the park in downtown san jose. as you're getting dress

we have storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar powered up and ready to go to track the rain that will be here, most of the bay area on wednesday. as we look at where it is now, we have a weak disturbance moving into southern california, that's going to push some clouds our way. no rain as of yet, but you will notice more clouds today, and then our round of rain gets here on wednesday. we can see that on the satellite imagery, as that system approaches, and once again partly to mostly cloudy skies as you get ready to head out this morning, but looking at the timing of the rain, here we are on wednesday, early in the morning, we start to see the first rounds of rain moving in, mostly some light showers. it will be off and on throughout the day on wednesday, and then tapering off on thursday, on thanksgiving, we'll have a dry afternoon, but then another round moving in for the north bay, working its way to the south throughout the day on friday, and there still may be lingering showers on saturday. how much rain are we going to get? the computer models are still trying to hammer down the

powering up storm ranger we have it going, that's the red scan you see coming out of the south bay. there is a weak disturbance farther to the south that's going to push some clouds our way, and keep that smoke trapped near the surface for us throughout the day, and then here is the rain, as it continues to move closer, it will be here by wednesday. let's talk about the timing. by wednesday morning, as you get ready to head out, maybe it's a big travel day, you're hitting road, we are going to see widespread light rain moving through. it will be off and on throughout the day on wednesday, and then taper off on thanksgiving. another round moving in late thursday night into friday, and this will be the heavier rain that will start us off heading into the weekend. our computer models still trying to nail down exactly how much rain we'll see, but it's looking like we should get a pretty good solid inch for much of the bay area, and then some much higher amounts farther to the north, maybe ukiah getting over three inches of rain, while the sierra will get heavy snow. elevations above 6,5

so we've powered up storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar, that's to scan the red beam that you're seeingout of san jose. i'm going to widen out the view and show you where the storm is now, as we continue to track it, seeing a lot of clouds, and that moisture being drawn up out of the pacific continuing to move off toward the east into the bay area, headed into next week. this is a look at our forecast. how the computer models paint the picture, we're going to see the first round of rain moving in on wednesday and there may be pockets of heavy rain in the north bay, lighter elsewhere across the bay area. another round coming in shortly after thanksgiving on friday and possibly a third round of rain, but this one looks to mostly be for our north bay microclimates. as we look at how much the computer models are putting down in terms of rain, this far out, they may not be all that accurate, but showing that there will be some decent totals out there, possibly over an inch, maybe even two inches of rain especially farther to the north, but that also raises the concerns with rainfall that hea

ranger in pacifica. it is beautiful but very powerful. this is the surf in pacifica earlier today. you can see the swells there at the pier. the coast guard is urging people t use caution along nbc bay area's christy smith has the high surf advisory. are they expecting any significant damage there? >> reporter: well, you know, we haven't heard anything about that. but, boy, late this afternoon, conditions really started to change here in pacifica. you can see what the ocean is looking like right now. this is when people started to show up. they wanted to see the waves go over the rocks, over the wall, and onto the sidewalk, which we've seen it do several times now. all this without heavy winds and rain, and that's about to change. >>> the pacifica pier closed this afternoon. waves pounded the shore at high tide. >> they put in the riff raf to protect the houses. >> reporter: paul wanted to see the surf. >> it's really nice to come over here and be next to the fresh air and the waves. >> reporter: before the pier closed, aaron lotto tried to catch crab but the waves were churning. >

the only thing that's going to help us out here is rain, and the we've got storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar powering up. it's sitting on san bruno mountain and tracking the next storm system. here it is as we look at satellite imagery. still well to the south of us, and it is a makes its approach our computer models are still holding on to the chance that we will see some rain. also by monday to tuesday, the winds turn more southerly, we're going to start to see the possibility of that rain moving in. especially on wednesday there may be another wave on thanksgiving and then possibly a third on friday into saturday, so our chances are looking pretty good, but, still, our computer models are all over the place on how much we'll see, and it is early, but look at this. the possibility of getting two inches of rain would be amazing. well, that's what the euro model is showing, and i'll show you what the gfs model is showing as well. that's coming up in the next microclimate forecast. >> wow, that is promising. thanks, kari. >>> a new jersey couple in legal trouble. they gained national attention when th

we have storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar powered up and ready to track the storm that will arrively during the afternoon hours for much of the bay area. there will be another stronger storm moving in between wednesday night and thursday, and that one could bring some gusty winds at times as well as some heavy mountain rain and a little bit of sierra snow and also the increasing surf for the coastal areas. as we're starting out this morning, looking out the window getting dressed t is chi, it is. grab a warm jacket and light long sleeves will keep you comfortable throughout the day. we'll see an increase in cloud cover today and we take it through 8:30 tomorrow morning and see that rain approaching santa rosa, and areas to the north. as we go through the rest of the day, still some scattered showers that will be moving into parts of the east bay as well as the south bay by early afternoon, and some spotty rain into the evening. we'll be a little bit of a break on wednesday, at least the start of the day, before some heavier rain moves in late wednesday night, and then it continues
