i want to thank the national press club. here's what i said yesterday at the new york city columbus day parade to the many bystanders. [speaking foreign language] that means everyone's italian. so it's tomorrow. so i'm back to not being italian anymore. there is perhaps no issue more complex than tax reform. but for all the disagreements on taxes as most policymaker, democrats, republicans, independents what the broad outline what tax reform might look like and you get a stark lingly consistent answer. broaden the base by getting rid of loopholes in the tax code that approach has distinguished lineage. ronald reagan and the 1986 congress invented this. in the upcoming talks on the fiscal cliff, we should scrap this. the old style of tax reform is obsolete in a 2012 world. it does not fit the times because there are two new conditions that did not exist in 1986 but are staring us in the face today. first, a much larger and much more dangerous deficit and second, a dramatic increase been income and inequality. old-style tax re
