investment bank deutsche banc cut its rating from "buy" to "hold," thinking priceline's competitors will get more aggressive. it was a trio of technology stocks leading the dow jones industrial average, including the worst dow stock so far this year, hewlett-packard. h-p-q shares closed up 2.6%. cisco systems is at its highest price since early may after gaining 2.4%. and microsoft moved up 1.8%. last week, it was at its lowest price of the year. uncle sam no longer wants to own a.i.g. late today, the treasury department announced it is looking to sell the remaining stock it got when it bailed out the insurance giant. the stock represents 16% of a.i.g. shares were down 2.3% during the regular session and lost another 1.5% in extended hours trading. selling these shares will mean the government made a profit with its bailout. after this stock sale, the government will continue to own warrants, allowing it to buy a.i.g. stock if it chooses. separately, a.i.g. announced it will sell almost all of its aircraft leasing business to a group of chinese companies for $4.8 billion. that's much les

priceline one of the biggest losers after hit with a downgrade from hold to buy.tting the price of its nook. from $79 to $99. holiday shopping competition intensifies. >>> a price target from jeffries this morning continue to drag shares of apple lower, after that stock hit the critical debt cross on friday. the last time was in december of 2008. brian marshall, and mark newton. guys, good to see you. mark, i'll start off with you. we were discussing before the death cross and maybe lack of importance with the death cross. walk us through why you think it may be too much hype? >> it's been inconclusive over the years. this has happened five times with apple since 2001. the last time in 2008 was occurring at the lows of the stock. in 2008, a lot of stocks made death crosses in the fall of that year. so it's important to utilize a lot of other indicators besides just looking at the 50 and 200 moving day average. i think the stock is getting down to levels that are important. >> to be clear, though, september 2008 was one of those instances of the death cross. >> yes

expedia, priceline, isn't setting the rate. ultimately it would be a good thing if you have demand stepping up because you see discounting in the channel. oftentimes the leader traveler is going to benefit if there's weak corporate demand because the big chains will discount to fill in the rooms with the leisure traveler. >> jay, we talk about the fiscal cliff impact and nobody knows how that story's going to turn out. if taxes do elevate in the new year and stay elevated compared to this year, i mean, isn't travel largely discretionary, largely a purchase that you make with some extra income you have on the sidelines? what might we be looking at in terms of travel demand, not this quarter, but in the next couple of quarters? >> certainly i think from a big picture standpoint, you're more worried about this as it relates to marriott or starwood in corporate travel demand. that's where we're seeing the concern. leisure travel remains relatively strong. you still have the secular tailwind here. only about a third of travel global
