he happens to be madison's princeton buddy. he introduces her to james madison. within several months of meeting, they are engaged. so aaron burr is an important person in madison's life. he also eventually knocks off alexander hamilton, thus removing a strong political enemy. so this is dolley's wedding ring that marion dupont scott acquired and now belongs to us. they marry at the home of one of dolley's sisters. her sister had married george steptoe washington, a nephew of george washington. this is still in the family home in west virginia. they go back and live in philadelphia. it is a lovely set of charcoal portraits by james sharples. dolley is still in her quaker bonnet. where they live on spruce street in philadelphia also

joining me now, omar wasso, assistant professor at princeton university's department of politics. i know you say history shows peaceful protest are enormously effective at bringing about change. what about a peaceful police approach? isn't it a two-way street? >> i think that's a really important question, and i think it's helpful to begin a discussion about protesting with sort of why are people protesting, and there's this anger and mourning and grief at an incident like the police killing of george floyd. and for some people, that anger kind of justifies that sort of what you might caught an eye for an eye morality, that we want to reciprocate the state violence gechs us. when i look at the protests of 1960 and 1972, i found that nonviolent protests, particularly those that were met with state violence, where protesters make themselves the targets of state violence, those were very -- they created very powerful images that helped change public understanding. one of your earlier guests talked about lifting the veil of ignorance. if one can capture those images of a brutal police

berg, you alluded briefly to the answer to this regarding president wilson at princeton buried thesethree presidents, what was there relationship to status in class. we get a sense that in with the common man but not of the common man. he was a harvard man, takeo man. a. scott berg: and we know he was friends and running down to the lower east side where my great-grandparents sets up a hundred years ago. in a specific outcome of the immigrant lower cap classes, to 1920, the really parts of the america of these three presidents. what was the class. speech of that is a great question. i think what happened for theodore roosevelt was that when he first went to harvard, he kind of was it just be dealing with the people of his class. but underlying that kind of attitude, he came from a wealthy family obviously in new york. but his father had always been interested in social justice. not join the real estate business to make your mother pretty and he became at the left for the post. that instinct was intended. but in the real place where he began to shift away from that harvard glassman me
