and saturday a conversation with justice alina kagan at her alma mater, princeton university. here is a look. >> to hearing that you see on tv is the tip of the iceberg as he went around, i think i did 82 of them. what was striking was how many of them, republicans and democrats, wanted to talk to me about the second amendment. but with the kinds of rules, there are at least whirls about what i could say because then they knew that they could and asked a very direct questions about these particular cases. so the proxies were along the lines of do you hunt. and i went through these interviews and my answers were so pathetic. and do you know anyone who hunts? not really. [laughter] and so i was sitting down with one of the senators from idaho who has a ranch and is a great hunter himself and he was telling me all about how important this was with many of his constituents and i totally understand why. and so when i was feeling a little bit punching, it was late in the day and i said, you know, senator, this is something that was apart of it and he looked at me with abject horror

rice university in 2003 and soon after a 2008, francis earned her doctorate in politics at princeton university where she worked with paul framer, kelley mendel burke and cornell west. she held two distinct postdocs at the university of chicago and indiana university school of law before joining the faculty at pepperdine university where she garnered quite the students following with politics and law and society. francis' work at the intersection of american politics, race, constitutional law in history. she's particularly interested in the construction of rights and citizenship, black political activism and politics of capitalism. she's the author of "civil rights and the making of the modern american state" which was published on cambridge university press. this book argues the naacp plays a pivotal role in the federal court power and criminal procedure and subsequently in civil rights in civil rights by helping the supreme court wrestle away jurisdiction for state courts in the 20th century. what i would argue is that kind of conceive of making his work as a kind of deeply archival projects

she visited harvard, yale, princeton, university of pennsylvania and then she decided that the university of virginia would be the place to go, southern tied to thomas jefferson and so she didn't let the facts stand in the way of the story. then she granted in them knit to am of support players and she didn't and probably most importantly didn't talk to the people who were accused of rape by her source. you always have to get the other side of the story. that's sort of journal list many one on one. if someone is making the accusation you have to get a comment of someone who has been accused in the scenario. >> you're right. it's in every ethics code out there with respect to journalists. the first thing you have to do after you get the information is to check out the information and then the second thing is to get comment from anyone who has been accused. if that person chooses to say i don't want to comment, that's fine. but you have to seek that information. > well, how about this on all of this, eric tweeted out there to phi kappa sigh for the kappa sigh whichization of the rolling sto

princeton university did a brain scan where she had people look at images and found that they are processednot as if they were people but if they were things and the truth is that one reason for these self-destructive behaviors is that people are in the making behaviors that make roof with themselves. another is that there is pretty good evidence that when you are under great financial stress that robs you of the cognitive capacity. a harvard economist did some fascinating studies in india looking at cortisol levels in distress and cognitive capacities before and after the harvest because before the harvest there is no money and people are stressed. after the harvest for a while they are in good shape. indeed it turns out that after coming your capacity improves by the 13 iq points and so i think there is some evidence that one of the ways there is a poverty trap is the sense of hopelessness that people just feel overwhelmed, that nothing is going to make a difference and that at that point that it's not because of the nature itself because there is a new school uniform or some micro- finan
