your thought on going into this role and taking a look at cases like that and maybe determining priorities based on the likely outcome? have you given any thought to that? >> certainly as we review a case, both throughout my career as a prosecutor and as u.s. attorney, we always look to the possibility of how a court will view a particular matter. but first and foremost, whether the case involves voting or any other important right, is the issue of what is the evidence that's presented and what is the relevant law, what is the interest being protected. and if it relates to a core function of the department of justice, such as protecting the right to citizens, keeping our citizens safe, or protecting the right to vote, it is a matter that we would be obligated to look into. whether or not a matter would result in litigation would of course depend upon a variety of factors which are not in front of me today. about the nature of the law and how it was written and essentially whether it comported with those laws that were previously approved both by the department and by courts. certainly with

as you know, last year we identified four strategic priorities to help guide our budget decisions. those priorities, which i believe are still relevant are to enhance park safety, to advance environmental sustainability, support active living and strengthen customer service. last year these priorities guided our decision to invest in programs such as park patrol urban forestry, and additional recreational program staff and we'll continue to use these priorities as a guide as we consider budget investments for the next two fiscal years. again, as we have for the last couple of years, we expect to be able to balance the budget, using revenue enhancements from our leases and concessions, both in golden gate park and citywide. i absolutely expect to have additional revenue from our parking garages, if any of you have been in civic center garage recently, you will have noted it's much busier than it used to be. we have two long-term monthly tenants that we have recently engaged, which make it a little less convenient to park in the garage. but it's certainly generating additional revenu

i'll touch on this a little later, things that are priorities of the secretary, priorities of the department are not necessarily the biggest budget things in all cases. space is something that is significant funding as well. there is a significant new concern going forward. this is about the future years as well. we have space and i think power projection are areas when we talk about modernization and addressing the future, looking at eroding technological superiority. these are primarily the type of areas we are talking about where we are investing and we can talk about some of the particular munitions. some of these areas are classified and we can't talk about them in detail but there are also some things that we can talk about. something that is important to the deputy. i think he has already spoken about this. i don't know that i could really do this justice compared to the justice who is leading our efforts here. we have tried to give you a flavor on this slide. are not only about money but ways of thinking how to approach the problem. where he is trying to move the department forward.
