so not only was that happening between me on one end and ben and priscilla on the other, but they were sitting according to, like, the decorum of the real world and people who hadn't spent much physical time together. so there was a tinemy bit -- tiny bit of awkwardness that i could see. and i didn't know if that was because they were feeling out the early stages in their relationship or if they had kind of regressed back to the social code of being effectively strangers. but it really set into relief for me what is enabled in vice president r., and since -- in v.r., and since then i've learned partially it was because they weren't necessarily the match that they thought they might be and, in fact, priscilla ended up marrying someone else that she had met in that world. and that's covered in the chapter in the book. but we did an excerpt of this or an adaptation of this chapter in the april issue of "wired," and we made it much more about the wedding that then happened. so it's kind of the fast forward to this other relationship. so if you have read that piece in the magazine, then boo

this has been a great couple of days with bono, priscilla chan, ben bernanke, hank paulson, condoleezza rice, president and mrs. bush talking about leadership. i want to talk about leadership. i want to take you back to the beginning. in 1995 you started. you went public in 1997, and i will adjust for stock splits that you issued shares at $1.50 a share. in 1988 your revenue is $600 million and you lost $125 million but your stock went up to $55 a share. so you double the down. sales went up threefold. you lost another $400 million but your stock went up to $76. $27 million of market capital. take us to that time when the market is telling you that you are doing great, that you have -- but you have red ink in the company. you took on $2 billion in debt from 1999 to 2001. what were you thinking back then? [laughter] jeff: it is kind of fun to go back and think about those days. in those days, when i started the company, it was just one person. and then there were 10 people. today, there are almost 600,000 people, so there is a lot of change. but back in that time, we were still a pretty

priscilla chan -- here was a portion of her conversation with the zuckerberg initiative that was -- issues like health, criminal justice, and education. >> this is not going to sound humble, but i think it's true of all of you in this room, i was a really good student. where you guys pretty good students? what that means is that i am really good at sitting in a lecture hall like this, listening to someone share information, write it down, and then tell it back to someone later. i'm still really good at it, and if i were in your seats, i would have a really good time. i'm having a good time up here, too. when i actually went to work with families, build a primary school, build a cvi, i didn't have any of that skill set. no one ever premiered me -- prepared me for that. our current systems, even if we are wildly successful, don't actually prepare students to do what they need to do in the workplace. what my hope is is that we actually think about how we can change that. how we can educate our students in a way that prepares them for the real-life workplace. >> you can watch the rest of her c
