procter & gamble.the worst performing stocks in the dow year to date, and we have seen, look at this, over the past month today period, just in the month of december, an almost 7% gain of shares of procter & gamble. put it in perspective. a nice december turn around, but down 13% this year. there's a nice pop here just at the end of the year, perhaps some short covering, perhaps some fundamental devaluing buying. on the s&p, big gains, okay, for green mountain, however, that's a takeover story. leaving that aside. meanwhile, whole foods markets are up 18% just in the month of december, so, again, maybe devalue buying, short covering. however, if you take a look, 18% month to date, down 32% on a year to date basis. long term turn arounds in december. another one. in the nasdaq 100, whole foods, green mountain plays into the stories as well, but mattel, a real underperformer, but in december, up 11%, a big turn around for this member of the nasdaq 100, but look at this, still down 11% year to date. some

the crowd overwhelmingly said apple, turns off they were better off buying intel and procter & gambleese are the eight stocks in the s&p, notable ones at record highs august 20th, facebook, jpmorgan, nike, starbucks, it was chipotle, it was under armour, home depot, it was netflix. we asked you, the viewer, the listener on satellite radio, the tweeters, the facebookers out there to vote which one of these stocks you thought would have been the best sell candidate. it turns out that chipotle mexican grill was the stock that the crowd picked. the trade worked out for them well. if you look at a chart of chipotle versus the s&p 500, the s&p 500 is modestly lower, but chipotle lost a third of its value since august 20th. we knows there been turmoil in the market since then and it's hard to model a foodborne illness outbreak. investors got this one right with a little bit of luck. look at facebook and netflix. fairly decent divergence. netflix shares since that time, down about 4% through august 20th, up 10% is facebook shares. interesting divergence there for two of these internet oriente

here procter & gamble and merck as well. can see these hefty dividend yields north of 3% or thereabouts. the other five that we have so far, at least in this year's list, verizon, coca-cola, pfizer, mcdonald's, and ge. now, i want you to kind of pay attention to what's happening here overall with some of the shares because overall with general electric and mcdonald's, we've seen some real share price appreciation. as a result those names go out of the dow -- dogs of the dow. the yelields are no longer high enough. >> this is where they began the year of 2015. >> now, let's take a look at the new ones. the ins and the outs. if we can see what they are. who has gone out? coca-cola, mcdonald's, and general electric all around 3% yields. if things were to end today, they would no longer be part of the dogs of the dow. instead they will be replaced by cisco, walmart, and ibm. all of those guys go into the overall dogs of the dow. so the idea here is if you rebalance, everything else pretty much stays the same except for these thr

today with the dow up 369 points it was paced by apple, microsoft and jpmorgan all up better than 3%, procter & gamble and home depot had a pretty nice session, too. oil sitting out today's rally after opec's decision to increase output slightly. joining us now is sam margolin and he has some picks. you are rauf brave, sam, or crazy and maybe quite profound. what are they? >> i should start out by saying at $40 oil nothing is safe in in universe, but it's just a silver linings there are some stocks we like. in the large cap integrated group what you're looking for is companies that are pulling costs out the fastest. chevron and total. chevron's capital expenditures are on track to fall by 50% by 2017. a lot of that has to do with the rate of growth between now and then. mo both of those companies have right sized themselves to break even at $60 oil. it's a long way from here but it's not 80 or 90 or the levels people were talk being a year ago when this commodity first started to break down. >> what about your other two, marathon and valero. >> so the other industry that i cover is the refini

boyle, come in, please, i want some dividend stocks, that's a recent play and you're telling me that procterividend player? i never think of p&g as a dividend stock. >> well, if you look at it, stuart, it has a reasonable dividend. a little over 3.3%. one of the other things that we like about that is in the consumer staples area and we're in a very old stock market here. it's close to the third longest that we've had in 1900. the dividend has been growing at per year and lower volatility and good growth rate makes it an attractive area. and altria, what's the yield on the dividend yield on altria. >> you're picking up just a little over 4%. a little over 3.9% like-wise, a good growth rate there on the dividend of about 8 to 9 the%-- percent per year and it's helping that when your customers are buying back over a billion dollars in stock in a 18 month time frame as well. it has a great stability to it. >> 3.3% on png and that beats a bank cd by a country mile. that's a huge win. how about amazon? we've been saying, i've been saying, this is the stock of the year, 2015. i want your opinion o

we know major corporations like procter & gamble spend half ad spend on social and look to push more there all the time. why is that? >> the social platforms are data driven platforms now. you know, the big story is about data, and really direct marketing and sale has really hit the internet. as you look at the social platforms with locked in users and ability to pin point audience and target the audience and deliver an experience that is specific to an individual, you know, that's why these big brands are moving their dollars to the digital markets. >> do you think it works? do you think it's more effective than traditional advertising? >> absolutely does. we have a lot of clients, obviously, you know, executing advertising on facebook today, pouring more and more dollars in there, the advertising dollars, you know, cpms are up there because of the performance associated with it. i mean, the best thing about digital markets is that it's very measurable. it's very targeted. yeah. i believe so. >> it's targeted. this is what we talked about yesterday, andrew, right? it's targeted, but
