attending virtual programming offered by some community service providers and other providers in our network, which was a great cloox and a way not only for information to be disseminated out to people but also to raise awareness, like legal assistance to the elderly is here and available. we also had one of our legal service providers join -- we do -- during -- we initially did weekly das webinars, which was a great way to reach out to our contractor base to keep them updated on how things are changing, and one of our legal providers joined us to do a seminar on the covid stimulus payments that participants received aso that our provider could pass onto their clients about what to expect, where to access funds, how to access funds, and where to seek assistance if any was needed. those are some of the great thicks that they stepped -- things that they stepped up and helped us with during the pandemic. and i'm happy to answer any questions. >> great. i think it shows, during the pandemic, that there was more technology available for each maybe new people to join in, especially when th

the expansion of people who can provide the help, practitioners who can provide the help. and finally the recognition that in some cases, particularly when there's a lack of broadband, telephone, audio-only, is an important part of this i don't think it can be stressed enough what an important development this is. and it took, i guess it took the pandemic, we all know, those of us who have been working on this for years and i remember visiting early telehealth facilities when i was governor of maine 25 years ago, but to see it expand to the level and everybody has heard the number, at the beginning of the pandemic 12,000 telehealth visits a week. by the middle of -- by the middle of june, a million telehealth visits a week. that's just an amazing, you know, unbelievable change and it has provided access and i think people are now realizing that this kind of access is something that should continue and we should be sure to enable the policies and the reimbursement policies and all the other pieces that enable this to continue. again, particularly for people in rural areas.

we have been providing a much-needed support, as much as we can to help get them open. right now, we are working with the district to set up the testing system. we shared funding and staff to help facilities get ready we will do whatever we can to get our classrooms open. i know it is not easy. it is for the good of our entire community, and for our kids and families. nothing matters more. back in summer when it was clear schools weren't going to open this fall, we knew we had to do something for the kids struggling with distance learning, including my niece and nephew. that is where we launched this community hub initiative. as the first semester of the initiative comes to a close, we have an opportunity to look back on all that we have accomplished with this incredible program. as i said when we first started the program, it takes a village to get the children the resourceses they need to thursday five. that is especially true during the pandemic. we have an incredible village in san francisco. in a matter of weeks we got the program up and running with the help of co

the eu has provided initial grace period through march 15th, 2021. even though again the requirement was by the first of the year. but they have said that only if the risk could be mitigated as i understand it. what other mitigation techniques could you use to ensure we are not opening ourselves up to more dangerous substances? >> well, senator, the act specifically states that we could cease to destroy other law enforcement actions. so, for us, the first thing that we would do for mitigating risk is we do have something without aed. we would use enhanced scanning and canines and a physical inspection. if the volumes allow us to do that. the other thing we could do, the approach to enforcement in general is to work with those countries that want to have the greatest challenges with respect to getting the data, work on assessing the risk. this is something that we do all the time with partners. whether it is through our partnership against terrorism or other techniques where if we can validate some sense of internal control that they have over package

the inspections provided by the federal grain inspection service defined and classify grain as as well as assign grains and quality assignments and these inspection provided a gold standard backed by grain buyers and sellers. american grain farmers participate in a very competitive world. the foreign grain buyers should be confident in this process that we put forward and have a place to ensure our exports are adequately inspected. as we move ahead with re-authorization, i hope we take stock of the inspect agency is working and continue to work in a bipartisan basis and provide stability in our federal grain inspection system. i would like to note that we need -- that the need for a dedicated and strong work force in our ports to ensure that american grain can be expertly and efficiently loaded into ships for export. i would encourage those companies that have not reached an agreement with their work force to continue to seek an agreement. i applaud the companies that have already committed to their workers. so i encourage my colleagues to support the grain standard re-authorization ac

for small businesses and restaurants to stay open providing those meals and getting paid for providing those meals through the program reimbursement with fema and the state, working with our counties. already, 10,000 food industry jobs have been supported since the initiation of this program, almost 18 million meals provided. we want to get this to a whole other level. if we continue to put more pressure on the restaurant industry, it is important that we share more information about the great plates program. it is not a panacea. it is not perfect. i recognize there are implementation challenges. each county does it differently. each county has different rules and regulations and different criteria as it relates to how they operate this specifically, but it is important that we promote it nonetheless, and i want to encourage people to go to that covid19.ca.gov website. covid19.ca.gov. learn more about great plates. see if it works for you. it may not work for you, but if it does, it will be very helpful during the next 6, 8, 10 weeks as we work through the most challenging period since
