i became pta president and we love our school. many of us are here tonight. we feel it is important for us to be able to stay together and move together in the middle school. and especially because i live within walking dis÷8g of the middle school. there were no other people that we knew. instead of going into a lot of our stories, we have been extremely saddened and frustrated the last couple of months. we tried as much as we could to work within the system. we have been writing letters. we want to make it work. we are public school advocates and we are extremely active in our schools. we invested lots and lots of time. we also donated money and we want to stay within the public schools. we feel like we're being pushed out because we are not willing to accept going across town with nobody we know. when we only have three years and that sort of thing. we feel like we're being as or we are being pushed out to look for private schools. charter schools, home schooling, all of that stuff. i never called a private school until last week when i saw how dismal the s

in the pta president of longfellow elementary school. we are 650 students strong. i will 100 students to school every wednesday, and yet, i cannot get police escorts. i have 100 kids that i walk to school, eight blocks every wednesday to help save the environment, help them keep healthy, and alleviate the problems with our traffic. even though i said e-mails, i cannot get police escorts to help keep our children safe as i walk them to school. they are my responsibility. even though i sent e-mails, i do not get police escort. i would like police escort for those 100 children i walk to school every wednesday to get to school safely. i would appreciate that. and i would appreciate for the san francisco police department -- they have walked with us on our what the school day, so i appreciate that. however, every wednesday, i do want kids to school, and their lives are my responsibility, and i would like the hon. the other thing -- affordable housing sounds very nice and all, but we need jobs. affordable housing cannot be affordable if you do not have a job. we have lot

i can remember working with neighborhood groups,p pta's, and creating an book for what fema now uses for elementary school during earthquakes. what i did for the city council also was create a wildfire district. houses in the fire zone -- there is this unique, urban, wildfire interface. i do not know if you have to worry about raccoons, mountain lions, and wild turkeys. but i have to worry about those and the redwood forest on the edge of my city. we pass one of the first wild fire districts in the state. i should have put a cost of living increase in there. we get about $65 per household, and we use that for vegetation management, extra fire patrols during the fire season. right now, we are mostly using it for an eir, so that we can start building fire breaks in the hills and other areas. we are now really living on borrowed time. for those of you on the hayward fault, we are now in the 142nd year in every 140-year earthquake. we are two years behind the average. we know, in our area, should there be an earthquake tomorrow, we could lose up to 15,000 lives. one-third of the rental h
