it's up to the pta's discretion. and that's a valuable asset that they not only enjoyed but have been thankful for. dpw is committed for every school site that participates to do a deep cleaning twice a year. and in an effort to talk to the principals and parents letting them know that we their school site and playgrounds, we want it in a better condition than it is today. and to have a deep cleaning twice a year, is something that we are excited about doing. and so are the schools and parents. as well we have a large pool of capital available to different school sites throughout the year. basically to draw on, and we have created a grant program for pta's to apply for the funds to open on the weekend. it's one thing to open up the playground or to have a league come in or whatever it may be. and it's really been fun to talk to the different pta's involved so far. different pta's have different ideas. some want skateboarding parks or festivities. some want community gardens. some want the traditional coaching activit

learners and instrumental in bringing reading partners to the school and he has also been working with the pta to create a support network and a literacy network to support the struggling readers. most recently he has been reading by design to introduce writing strategies to all of the classes. and in my brief stint of work i have had a chance to see his leadership as he has rallied his work during inclusion week and had assembles trying to raise awareness including people with disabilitis in classrooms and he is also going to be the host in the coming week of the second annual dinner for gay and lesbian familis in san francisco. and we thank him for offering the insight into that and he was the first principals of cohorts for the arts. i was able to see him jam on stage this summer and so it makes me very proud to be able to welcome robert here before you. mr. brecker please come up. happening on yahoo groups or communications that are coming out from auxillary organizations like the pta they're not always translateed and it's a big concern for us. it's not a step forward in creating a diverse communities. it's not a step forward in encouraging our -- particularly our english learning family to participate fully in our school sites and so recently we sent some questions back to christina wong specifically about what the policies were for our website and the auxillary websites that they are generated and the communications in the schools and we received a prompt reply back saying "it is in the works that the district is working toward adding protocols and processes into the guidelines for ensuring quality and interpretation services" and attached to the email. it's not currently in here but we are hopeful it's included and comprehensive protocol that we can give to sitings regarding school loop and all the other auxillary sites are happening as school generate their other school communications. the other point line we would like to highlight is number eight, enhanced d

enforcement has a serious tone so we created this program for officers to present to schools and to pta's and to faith based organizations and any community group that wants to hear it. we have the hour long safety program and started with digital safety as the kind of umbrella but it touches on -- i agree i don't like the term cyber bullying. kids don't use that and it's bullying and it's drama. everything is drama now but law enforcement needs to look at the piece of social media and what it plays and taking the phone is like cutting off the arm and parents are not understanding the disconnect and it's a divide and how kids communicate today and how parents communicate and helping parents parent in this digital world and helping kids make smarter decisions, so they don't have to worry about friending the college recruiter and them taking,a way their scholarship or anything like that. it's also looking at trainings for law enforcement officers -- when i go to a school and has a knife and on the honor role and never had any problems so it would be easy -- well let's cite you for possessio

continuing to do that and announce that the mlc academic middle school and their students of promise and the pta is having a family night dinner and town hall meeting and that is going to be tomorrow evening, i am sorry, thursday. thursday is really hard for me. thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 at mlk. i know i want it all to go away and there is also, on friday, is the finals for the poetry slam. that youth speaks hosts every year and this is going to be for their annual slam competitions and competition and there are 6 finalists, i am actually going to be judging this on friday evening and just wanted to note that the 6 finalists are from the schools that they are from are raw talent and school of the arts and okay land and mission high and burton high and so i am looking forward as not being biased on who should win that competition. and i want to congratulate ellis and that is going to be honoring all of the accomplishments this year with their multiple acknowledgments, both state and federal, and local accomplishments, and congratulations to principal esito for all that she has done to work close
