and a lot of folks are reporting at the puc facilities and job sites to do their work. in all of our pause -- well, a lot folks have paused their day-to-day work so they can lend work for our city or the puc departmental operation's center and that's really to help a city-wide effort. and i am just proud to say despite the operational challenges, our customers receive a wider power and sewer services without any interruption. from start of this pandemic, we definitely focus on the health and safety of our employees first. employees who can do their job remotely are doing so and they have equipment and they need to make it happen. for employees who are still working and are at the puc facilities and work site, we are remain steadfast in our approach to safety and social distancing practises and ensuring that workers have the necessary ppe or personal protective equipment they need. it's all following the guidance of the federal, state and local agencies. last time we met, i told you that we are standardized the enhanced distancing procedure at the puc facility and work s

puc will be on the island doing additional cross-arm repairs and cut-out repairs tomorrow. the puc also has a contractor in place now to begin installation of the additional reclosers on the island beginning in mid-june and additional fault indicaters beginning later if the summer. the electrical switch gear area near the new waste water truant plant is now under surcharge, and the site has been completed and the sfpuc is ordering new equipment. the goal remains to have the new switch gear online by the first of the year. and the inherent vulnerability of the existing electrical system is in its fault tolerance and that is the ability of the system to maintain service through incidents which cause a short or surge in current. the reclosures are a means of attempting to provide some tolerance for to isolate an outage to a portion of the island, but the most significant improvement will come with the replacement of the switch gear early next year. as with the rest of the city, the life of residents and commercial tenants on the island has been greatly impacted by the covid-19

and currently owned by the san francisco public utilities commission, puc, and the city college of san francisco for overflow parking. as part of the city's landfill housing program, the city agencies work together to identify public land that could be converted to housing while providing both public benefits and financial returns to the city. balboa site is one of the designated public lands and this site presents great opportunities to realize the public land housing goals. it is underutilized. they can provide not only housing but many public amenities as called for in the balboa station, the site is in close proximity to the bart station and muni stops. this project is the result of over five years of community planning. and we are so excited to be here at the project approval hearing. a critical component of the community outreach is the balboa community the advisory committee. the brac. that was established in april 2015. in addition to providing a venue for public input, one of the responsibilities was to establish development and parameters for the developers' actions. the brca
