because this is how vladimir putin rolls. earlier today in all of his strong man glory, the same vladimir putin sat across from president obama for a two hour one-on-one meeting, the very, very difficult issue of the civil war in syria came up. difficult because it is a civil war that is escalating and one in which russia and the u.s. find themselves on opposite sides. the russians supporting the regime of bashar al assad, their veto power, along with china to block u.n. sanctions against the syria government. something putin argued yesterday did not breach any rules or laws. in defending his side, during a press conference with david cameron yesterday, putin brought up a video, one we've talked about a lot, that surfaced last month showing a syrian rebel apparently eating the lung of a government soldier. >> you will not deny the fact that one hardly should back those who kills their enemies and eats their organs and all that is filmed and shot. do you want to support these people, do you want to supply arms to these people?

how can you be absolutely sure that it was vladimir putin. >> "i took out the ring and showed it to putin and he put it on and goes i can kill someone with this ring." (audience reacts). >> john: yeah, that was him. okay, it was definitely him. that story emphatically checks out. (laughter) so let's recap this amazing incident. putin says he likes the ring, says he can kill someone with it then what happens? >> he put in the his pocket and three k.g.b. guys got around him and walked out. (laughter). >> john: what? it's the perfect crime! sorry, did i say "perfect"? i meant ballsiest. putin is not only a nuclear armed tyrant he's also the world's laziest jewel thief. there's one other thing about that photo. if you've seen video of vladimir putin you know that he's not the man given to extravagant emotion. i mean, look at him. in this case he's hang gliding and his expression says "being an eagle bores me." but if you judge by putin's comments to david cameron it doesn't look like putin is going to be persuaded that what the united states and western allies are doing by propping up the syrian opposition is any way to stop the blood shed. i think he's got a big challenge on his hand trying to convince putin to back off. >> as you talk about propping up the opposition we saw republicans over the weekend hammering the president's syria policy calling it too little too late. take a look at this. >> it is a powder cake for the region. ak 47s will not neutralize the advantage that assad has over the rebels. we need to do more. we need to create a no fly zone to neutralize the assad's air power. >> first of all, if i was in charge of this issue we wouldn't have gotten to this point. we would have identified elements to work with and make sure those elements were the best armed, best equipped and best trained. i think the fact that it has taken this white house and this president so long to get a clear and concise policy on syria has left us with the worst possible scenario. >> can the president say
