we will get the latest in pyeongchang in a moment. we want to start in santa clara county. >> an emergency landing happened just before noon highway 101 near the san martin airport. thom jensen was the first reporter on the scene. thom, you spoke to the pilot. he must have a heck of a story to hell. >> reporter: he really does. we couldn't talk to him for very long, he was trying to get the airplane into the airport at san martin, it was quite a story. it was not a crash, it was what he told me was an unscheduled and obviously emergency landing. as he was trying to get from an airport in davis and fly back to his home airport in watsonville where he has a hangar, he said that he had a mechanical malfunction of some sort. he called into air traffic control and they routed him here to the san martin airport, but as he came down out of the clouds flying up at about 16,000 to 20,000 feet he knew that he couldn't make it into the airport here, so he set it down on 101, the highway actually becoming an emergency landing strip. >> my wing ti

kim jong-un's rogue nation is just 50 miles from pyeongchang.litaryized zone, separating north and south. this is what is known as the the joint security area of the dmz. this is where north and south meet. you literally have south korean soldiers here who are staring into north korea just beyond the blue huts. the u.s. and south korea delayed their annual military exercises. so as not to provoke north korea. the north's decision to send a large delegation to the games is thought to have reduced the chances that it will disrupt the event with a missile launch or nuclear test. another big concern here at the olympics is some sort of large scale cyberattack that would disrupt the games and that is something north korea is particularly adept at. they have hired a private security firm here to try to prevent that kind of attack. >> we'll have much more on the winter olympics when we come back. you are watching the cbs "overnight news." breathe freely fast wmy congestion's gone. i can breathe again! i can breathe again! vicks sinex... breathe on. mak
