well, at first, i was an enlisted quartermaster. but then, i was fortunate enough to get commissioned before flying in vietnam. i was a navigator and tactical coordinator on a p-3 orion. left active duty after 5 years but stayed in the reserves for a total of 31 years, continuing to fly and serve in the reserves at moffett field. my last operational assignment was second-in-command, executive officer of the reserve patrol wing during desert storm. damian: well, you say that with a lot of pride. talk about-- francis: i think you'll find that with all veterans that they're proud of their military service and would do it again, even though it's not for the money. and, it's not easy. it's hard work. but, it's the pride and the commitment to country that makes us do it. damian: absolutely, well, thank you for that service. we've all known that the 129th, the rescue wing was responsible for flying the north and south no-fly-zones at one point in iraq. they've been back. now, they do rescue mission out in the open sea. i mean, it's nonstop

they start out as a quartermaster in riley. the geography plays a role in it. the federal army has much better leadership. the further west, the bigger the advantages. compared to their opposition they are pretty good. if you are playing oklahoma every week, it is tough. if you are playing southeast missouri state, you have a chance of winning. she went to the quartermaster general and cut three warehouses full of supplies and he sent her where she wanted to go which was to the front and she was incredibly brave and intricate to all the wars which remained antietam which is the single worst day in american history in terms of casualties. after the war one of the last acts lincoln performed was to allow her to set up but missing persons bureau and she found missing soldiers but also identified the graves of tens of thousands of soldiers so that they were given the respect of a marked grave and not left the known. then she goes to europe and discovers something called the red cross and comes back here and establishes the american red cross. this is one of many things that drives me crazy in history books. this kind of statement is a round the bend. and then she established the american red cross. really? was it hard? did anything go before it that? is there a story if there? of course it there was. she was able to get a red cross going in the united states but it didn't have the clout of being aligned with the international re
