he went down to the quiktrip convenience store, which has become sort of the epicenter of the protests. he again met on the street, man to man, one on one with protesters. he not only met with them, he actually told a group of protesters there that he wanted to personally escort them to a press conference, so that members of the community and not just the media could get their questions answered. >> i don't think that we should just have a press conference and not have anybody, the activists, the leaders down here. so i came down here today. i can't take the whole crowd, but i am going to take a select group. the governor is going to be there. and that way we can answer questions that the crowd has. it's my hope that gentleman like this, and other leaders within this group will be able to ask questions that are reflective of the group here, because they've been here. >> the governor is going to be there, so you guys should come too. captain johnson followed through on that. he did bring members of the community, people protesting in the streets, to that press conference, so they could

now we're almost by the quiktrip which is where the screen of most of this has happened. we've moved at least half a mile in the last 30 minutes. these are at least 200 people. so they have 200 people move half amile. a lot of that was running. that was tear gas. that was intimidation to get people to move back. it's a really hard thing to do. >> well, the police clearly want the crowd to disburse. from what you can tell, is the crowd actually disbursing or are they moving back with the police moving forward? >> some people have left. but there are a lot of people here, at least maybe 150 people still here that are still -- when they can, walking toward the police in some ways sometimes. and some of them are walking backwards. the crowd's thinning a little bit. i wouldn't consider it disbur disbursing at all. >> we're seeing police move in different directions. some looked like they were moving towards a side street or a parking lot or something, guns drown very visibly. we are seeing police, the commander on the ground is giving some specific directions. in the past few

was given a description by dispatch of a black male in a white t-shirt that was walking towards quiktrip, another convenience store nearby. the report details a strong-arm robbery at the first unnamed store, alleging brown steals cigars, and when the clerk comes out from behind the counter and attempts to stop brown from leaving, brown grabs the clerk by the shirt and forcefully pushed him back into a display rack. the police report also gives the time frame. 11:51 a.m., 911 call reporting the strong arm robbery. a minute later, the dispatch gives the suspect description. at 12:01, wilson encounters brown on the street. at 12:04, the second officer arriving. the shooting has already happened. after four straight nights of violent protests, the people in ferguson finally had their first peaceful night, with hundreds of protesters in the streets, maintaining calm as strait troopers walked alongside them in a show of solidarity. the question now is, will the peace remain. >> you have to do something about this! >> we want justice! is it too wrong? >> emotions still running very high. a miss

i plan on walking to the quiktrip that has been called ground zero and meeting with the folks there myselftonight. >> the events in ferguson over the past week have sparked a national debate over racial profiling and the militarization of local police forces. on thursday, president obama addressed the situation in ferguson but made no mention of race in his remarks. >> there is never an excuse for violence against police or for those who would use this tragedy as a cover for vandalism for looting. there's no excuse for police to use excessive force against peaceful protest or to throw protesters in jail for lawfully exercising their first amendment rights. here in the united states of america, the police should not be arresting journalists who are just tried to do their jobs. and report to the american people on what they see on the ground. >> attorney general eric holder said -- what holder didn't not mention was the federal government's role in supplying local police forces with military grade equipment. the new york times reports department of homeland security grant money paid for the

friends and family on the ground is that this started with a very peaceful impromptu party at that quiktrip. that they were barbecuing, that they weren't being violent tonight. that somehow police posture changed. i think that by morning, we're going to have time to step back and unravel this all and understand what the general course of events are tonight. i'll tell you what is at the root of this. there has never been a line of communication or trust between law enforcement and this community. and having one man, no less he may be, captain johnson, stand up on behalf of these police departments and offer his hand frankly isn't enough. they understand it isn't captain johnson controlling their streets every day. it's an officer that doesn't live among them. an officer they don't believe values their walk of life. we're going to continue seeing this kind of thing until people really understand or can see tangible transparency in this investigation. i think they are going to be calling for a number of things in the morning, including a special prosecutor and the removal of the state prosecut
