. >>> rachel ferguson sup next with weather. >>> time to see what's in store for friday across the world let's start in eastern asia. dry once again and very chilly for many of you in the east asian continent here from mongolia down in towards southern china we're going to be seeing icy blast of air. now, while the temperatures are not going to get too cold down towards the south, still down to about 16 degrees in hong kong. which is a little bit chilly for you there. we'll be looking at the rest of the temperatures in just a second. drying out here in the eastern coast of china. just a few lingering showers here clinging to the southeast coast. as for japan and the korean peninsula, some areas of heavier rain here, too, we'll be seeing snow out towards the north of japan. but as one system pulls away, the pacific edge should be drying out for friday. where we see some heavier rain is going to be taiwan in toward the philippines and we see the lingering showers for parts of vietnam, as well as laos and cambodia. 17 in hong kong and taipei. just 7 in shanghai. 0 in seoul, 1 in beijing. a

. >>> rachel ferguson sup next with weather. >>> time for another update on the world's weather. in eastern asia we were showing you video of what happened when washi, the tropical storm ripped through the southern philippines. >> this is the storm now, it's a tropical depression, no longer posing threat to any land masses, but certainly the clean-up operation is going to take quite some time. this is a devastating storm, it left more than 650 people dead with more than 900 missing at present. so it will be an ongoing story. if you take a look at the continent here, it's looking dry under high pressure. not much to say about this. it will continue to be very dry and that could be problematic in terms of fire weather across some parts of china. as for japan, the pacific edge is staying dry, but we continue to see the wintry precipitation for the northeastern coast. so snow for all of those people heading out to the mountains at the weekend. tokyo, 10 degrees for the tuesday high. 3 in seoul, 2 in beijing with minus 18 in ulan bator. 10 in chongqing and just above that in shanghai.

let's go to rachel ferguson with the world weather forecast to find out how long this cold snap will last. >> well, to answer your question, it's not going to last very long. another day here in japan. of those cooler temperatures. we will see temperatures rising up beyond seasonal temperatures once again. it will be a dramatic change for friday, again into saturday. but let's talk about friday first. it is going to be very clear once again across the korean peninsula as well as mongolia and china here. mainland eastern asia. also up towards the north of japan, showers are moving away now. it will be very cool across much of the region. now down in japan we are going to see still more showers to come especially along the pacific edge of the country. and those temperatures will be low before they start to come back up into the weekend. heading further south it is going to stay on the warmer side showers starting to clear out of southern china here but it will be clinging on to that southeastern edge of indochina and continuing across the philippines as well. 17 degrees in hong kong. a

. >>> and here's rachel ferguson with your weather update. >>> hello. welcome back. time to check on more weather stories from around the world. we start in eastern asia. most of the continent will be very dry, we'll see more snow making its way in towards northern japan, and it's actually because of this low pressure system developing right now. rather than wednesday, really, thursday, you'll feel this storm pushing up towards the north, and quite a potent storm as well. lots of snow blowing about there, too. let's look at what's happening closely here in the philippines. of course, that devastating storm washi moving through mindinau earlier on. that was friday night, and now severe problems, of course, have resulted from that storm. about 1,000 people dead. so as the cleanup continues, if there's any news we can give you weatherwise, it's that the showers you see are going to be relatively light. the heavy rain from the northeast monsoon will be focused up here towards the northeastern luzon there. temperatures, 31 in manila. also in bangkok. 11 in shanghai droppi
