time now to check the world weather forecast with rachel ferguson. >> yes, certainly looking a little bit wet and gloomy today, but wednesday will promise brighter skies and much higher temperatures as well. getting up to 27 degrees here in tokyo. but as for today, very wet across much of japan. it's because of this front and a low pressure system coming in together. while the rain will move away for much of japan into tomorrow, that front will be left over so still moving across the southern japanese islands. yakushima has seen about 150 millimeters of rain. we're likely to add to that as we head into wednesday as that front stays in place. now it's been affecting southeastern china. we're still seeing some significant rainfall hitting coastal areas. you could see another 50 to 100 millimeters of rain in the next 24 hours. falling on already saturated land. so quite unwelcome rain here. towards the northeast, we've got another system moving through. fairly wet and unstable. and again, for indochina, yesterday we were seeing some heavy rain towards the east. today again, the eastern h

." >>> now we go straight to rachel ferguson who has the world weather forecast. >> heavy rain has been hitting okinawa for the last couple of days if not the last week or so. a stalled out front coming down from a low to the northeast. now ihas pulled away from japan, the low is, but the front is still passing through southern okinawa and hitting taiwan and southern coastal china. maybe as much as 120 millimeters of rain in the next 24 hours. taiwan and southern parts of okinawa seeing the risk of flooding and land slides on that saturated land. japan is seeing another fine day as we head into the beginning of thursday. however, a low coming across which is an upper level low bringing frigid air to the upper levels. as it comes across, it will be colliding with the very hot air we have. the temperatures have been reaching the mid-20s. yesterday, with record-breaking temperatures. here in tokyo, that will cause some nasty thunderstorms which will last until friday evening. things are looking dry across much of mongolia and northern china. temperatures are starting to improve up toward t

rachel ferguson joins us now with the world weather forecast. rachel, good morning. so is the sun on its way? >> well, eventually, yes. but not today in tokyo, i'm afraid. it is going to clear up a little bit so the rain a little bit drizzly, but we will be seeing some dry skies today. however, later on in the day, the air's still very unstable. we could still see showers here in tokyo. up toward the north, it's going to be much heavier. rain continuing. what a week for japan to be experiencing the influence of this very slow moving and deep low pressure system. it really has been extremely wet. i'll show you some of the totals from this system this week. we're looking at 791 millimeters of rain in amagisan. hakoni 440 millimeters. 350, 300 millimeters. you're needing to add to the totals up toward the north because this system is plotting its way up toward hokkaido. you'll still see an addition 100 millimeters, maybe 150 in some areas in next 24 to 48 hours. so there will be continuing risk of flooding and landslides. warnings and watches are posted up toward the no

rachel ferguson joins us with the world weather forecast. >>> as we head to tuesday, things change in central japan. already it started to rain in the west, southern islands also being effected by a low pressure system and front coming across from china. that's bringing about 150 millimeters of rain in the next 24 hours, that's pretty significant volumes of rain in the forecast. it will also be producing thunderstorms, and those winds could get pretty high on the pacific edge of the country into the beginning of the week and tuesday. more heavy rain targeting southeastern china. not so unusual this time of year, rainy season has started, but certainly significant amounts of rain once again impacting the southeast could raise levels of flooding, risk of flooding and land slides. we're also seeing heavier rain impacting the eastern half of indochina here, as we head towards the philippines, scattered thunderstorms across much of the country as well. now, temperatures are generally going to be just about on average. tokyo, 24 degrees, 25 in beijing, hitting 31 in taipei and hong kong. 37

. >>> rachel ferguson joins us now with the world weather forecast. >>> hi, there. yes, we're talking about japan at the top of this hour, because there is some very heavy rain impacting much of the country's central locations, particularly seeing a torrential rain, as much as 250 millimeters is possible in just a space of 24 hours. now, we had reports of about 150 millimeters of rain falling in the space of three hours in okinawa. so definitely raising the risk of flooding and landslides. another thing, factor to consider with this is it's a slow-moving system so conditions into thursday will spread into the north. heavy rain could cause flooding and landslides. also there's going to be thunder and lightning and some high waves. we're looking at sustained winds of 72 kilometers per hour along the pacific edge of the country. high waves and rough seas. the other end of that front line is still impacting parts of southeastern china. somewhere that gets a lot of rain over the last couple of days, so another 50 millimeters or so, it's not going to be as heavy as it was

rachel ferguson joins us now with the world weather forecast. rachel, good morning, i'm just loving this sunshine. will it last? >> good morning. it was a really nice run of weather, wasn't it? it is going to last toward the north. unfortunately, we are not toward the north. so by the evening hours, we're going to start to see some rain coming in. there's a pretty invigorated front line just toward the south of japan, already affecting the southern japanese islands. see 50 millimeters of rain in the space of one hour. so that is some pretty intense rainfall. back in toward southeastern china, it's going to be about 50 to 100 millimeters over the space of 24 hours. now, it is the rainy season now, so we will see this intermittent heavy rain and these front lines forming and re-forming for the next month or so. but this one, anyway, this low is coming quite close to the pacific edge of japan, and it will be bringing some thundery showers from late tonight in toward tokyo. as we look toward the rest of the continent, fairly dry up toward the north.

here now is rachel ferguson with the world weather forecast. >> sunshine indeed. and about 28 degrees. very hot day here in the capital. as we head on into thursday, there is going to be a change in the afternoon. and it's because of the heat meeting some colder air aloft. like three see some nasty thunderstorms during the heat of the day. pop-up storms including hail, gusty winds and heavy rain as well. for the time being, hokkaido still being impacted by the low that's just moving across at the moment. and then this long front line still targeting also the southern japanese islands, as well as taiwan. taiwan has been get somethiting very severely heavy rain. and southern parts of coastal china, too, expecting to see more downpours as we head on into thursday. now parts of indochina have been experiencing some heavy rain. started off in the eastern half of the beginning of the week. now we're getting the southwest monsoon. we're seeing it invigorate and starting to really bring those downpours across parts of thailand. let's head now into north america. severe st

let's move on to weather now with rachel ferguson. >> it's been cloudy across much of central japan. though, there's going to be the potential once again for pop-up thunderstorms. seeing some cold air move in aloft. and that's when we can get those sudden showers and storms. there's not just central japan. also the beijing area and also western mongolia out towards the north seeing areas of cold air aloft, moving in and so there will be the potential for those pop-up storms. however, more persistent rain is occurring down towards the south. a front moving across taiwan into the southwestern japanese islands. so heavy rain here. also a low just sitting east of the philippines. you can barely see the philippines underneath all of that rain. i promise you it's there. this low is really helping to enhance all of the moisture coming in across the country so you'll be seeing heavy downpours into the weekend. and there's even potential to see this tropical low develop. we'll be keeping an eye on it. heavy rain for southwestern china. another low moving in here. lots of moisture across the b

let's turn to rachel ferguson for the details. >> hi there. why clear skies across much of japan today. it will be changing from this evening, though. showers make their way over from central china. the shanghai region and down in towards the south has been experiencing some very heavy rain. ongoing for the last several weeks off and on. it is the rainy season now and it has led to various problems. we have some video to show you. this coming out of guangdong province. more than 3,000 hectares of farm land have been flooded. massive mud slides occurred here as well killing four people and affecting more than 150,000 rescue efforts and disaster relief are under way now. but unfortunately, the wet season will continue for the next few months. it's just getting started, in fact, down across the south. we also have the southwest monsoon which is getting pretty active now over indochina. eastern and western coasts of indochina looking for heavy downpours on wednesday and into thursday. some other areas experiencing heavy rain is the southeast of th

here's rachel ferguson with the weather forecast. >> we're in for another round of storms across much of japan. yesterday we saw the same thing come 3:00, 4:00, you get those pop-up thunderstorms during the heat of the day. and some nasty thunderstorms at that. today we're actually going to be seeing even more rain. i'll break it down for you. you can see much of the country is going to be affected by these storms. heavy rain, damaging gusts, hail and even potentially tornadoes as well. here in the red is where the hot spot is going to be where the heaviest of the rain could be. and the winds may be strongest here along the pacific edge as well. now into tomorrow, much of central japan will be seeing clear skies. and a much more peaceful day. we will still see that system left over up towards the north. now heavy rain, a rain storm has been hitting inland china. that heavy rain pushes down towards the shanghai region and then in towards the south. that is going to be continuing into wednesday. but it shouldn't be quite as heavy. the peak of the rain will be today. heavy rain, however,

let's turn now to rachel ferguson for the world weather forecast. >> yes, lovely weather right now, but it isn't going to continue. we're likely to see pretty nasty thunderstorms across central and northern parts of japan. temperatures have been soaring the last couple of days. and that's part of the problem. as we have a low that comes over with some very cold air aloft. those two are going to interact and we'll be seeing potentially hail in those thunderstorms. as well as some very strong gusts. now it's not just the rain which will be heavy, but those thunderstorms. and then down towards the south, talking of the rain, heavy rain has been targeting southern parts of okawa over the last week or so. also under the influence of that front has been taiwan. now both areas are likely to see continuing flooding rains and a potential for rockslides as well as land slides. we're talking about rain. about 40 millimeters in the space of just one hour is possible for southern parts of -- for the southern japanese islands. we're also seeing heavy rain here in coastal china down towards the south.
