let's turn now to rachel ferguson for the latest on the world weather forecast. >> hi there, quite stormy across much of japan today. a long front moving across north to south. at the moment it has been impacting sea of japan side of the country. heading over towards pacific edge. so we have had reports of more than 130 millimeters of rain and then in another region, 63 millimeters of rain fell in a space of one hour. looking at short time, heavy rain. as well as strong wind with the system. good news is that will pass very quickly. and when the does, high pressure will move in, in its place. it will be dry, high pressure from the continent, rather than from the sea. which means it is not going to be humid, muggy as it has been. so, short time, really moving through the beijing area, as well. nothing too severe. looking fairly wet across eastern china. done to the south. likely to see significant rainfall in parts of the region, 100 millimeters of rain. for indochina peninsula. ongoing showers could turn heavy at times for parts of northern and central thailand, as well as for vietnam. al

. >>> rachel ferguson joins us now with the world weather focast. rachel, iteems like it's going toe anotheot dayn tokyo today. >> morning, catherine. yes, i think you're right. it is going to be hot and sunny across much of the country as well. but into tomorrow, we're going to see rain moving across from china and coming up across much of western and into central japan. the same band of rain will be impacting south korea. you could see as much as 30 millimeters of rain in the space of just one hour. so that kind of short time heavy rain can lead to flash flooding. the ground here is already saturated so that's going to be another thing to factor in. we have another low developing over chongqing. that's going to be bringing signicant rainfall awell. maybe 50 to 100 millimeters off of this rain band. it will be intensifying as it heads east over the weekend. southern china still seeing thundershowers along the coast. heavy rain has been falling in northern vietnam. we've had reports of more than 300 millimeters of rain in the last 24 hours. also part

. >>> rachel ferguson joins us now with the world weather forecast. it's mid september and we are still feeling the heat and humidity. are we going to get some relief? >> i can't believe it's mid september already. yes and no. we'll feel some relief but it willtill be a hot y. we have dry air coming from the continent. this will be a nice dry air. looking for 32 in tokyo today. but it should be much less humid and sticky. we are going to see showers moving into central portions of china. most of this is going to be moderate to light rain. further to the south, it will turn heavier. some parts of hunan province at 95 millimeters of rain in the last 24 hours. you could see more. seeing rain here. northern vietnam, the pink shows you where the southwest monsoon is very active. parts of thailand as well as back toward the bay of bengal. you could see flooding issues with the ongoing heavy rain in certain places. locally heavy rain also targeting the philippines today. taking a look at temperatures starting to cool down as we head into autumn. 25 in seoul.

. >>> rachel ferguson joins us now with the world weather forecast. it's been a hot and humid summer in tokyo. but it seems bearable this morning. what can we expect today? >> certainly has been absolutely roasting for the last little while, hasn't it? but this morning is a bit cooler. that said we're still going to be seeing about 30 degrees. the hottest part of the day here in tokyo. but it is just a little bit more bearable than it has been recently. it's going to be quite unstable across much of japan today. thunderstorms across much of the country. we've got this steady stream of moisture coming up from the south. that's going to be bringing heavier rain. across china you can see lots of dry, clear skies. high pressure in place, but there is going to be quite a lot of rain just along the east. all the way from southeastern russia, in fact, towards northern and eastern parts of indochina. the heaviest rain is going to be seen here today. and then that's going to be edging closer towards the korean peninsula to tuesday. that could be problematic be

let's turn now to rachel ferguson for the updates. >> we have a tropical storm to the east of the philippines. it was looking like it was going to head straight towards luzane making landfall monday. we could have good news here. the storm will be intensifying. expecting typhoon status earlier. should become a typhoon by sunday. now it looks like it is tracking further towards the north. and west. so, actually away from luzane. we may not see a direct hit. what i can tell you, that is enhancing the rainfall across the philippines over the weekend. not just eastern locations, but also, the western seaboard is going to be seeing enhanced rainfall. flooding, could be an issue here. much of the southern half of eastern asia is dealing with heavy rain in places. indochina, certainly, parts of thailand have been seeing active monsoon, monsoonal rains. a low-pressure system, sitting here down towards the south. around that low you will see heavier rain. then in southern china, south of t 100 millimeters of rain. humidity, moisture from the south. where it is warmer. and then toward the north. it's m

time to check the weather forecast, with rachel ferguson. >> across eastern asia we will see several areas of heavy rain that could cause quite a problem. one of them is going to be a low, and frontal system heading across in toward the korean peninsula. when we see heavy rain heading in here it is going to be very unwelcome. korean peninsula has been hit hard by several bouts of heavy rain over the last month or so. led to widespread flooding. this is going to be another dose, afraid of torrential rain. with showers, even left over past wednesday in south korea. out toward the northeast as well. another low is bringing some showers, in fact, into southeastern portions of russia as well. and then down along the coast. going to stale wet. could see 100, 250 millimeters of rain. getting very heavy down here across the south. a couple of low-pressure systems. one to the east of the philippines. one just sifting off indochina. hoping to enhance the southwest monsoonal flow. again, means heavy showers are possible. the flooding and landslide, mudslide, will also be -- possibilities. as fo

rachel ferguson joins us with that and more in her world weather forecast. >> talking about the heavy impacting japan. in fact over the last several days we have had very heavy amount. even down in western japan. that had something to do with the typhoon that blew through. japan wasn't directly hit by it japan, but it certainly brought a strong stream of moisture into japan. totals since sunday morning. a half a meter in some places. and getting up to 364 meters of rain. adding to the totals. we have a front stalled out across northern, central japan. all of that moisture flowing into it. very unsettled here into, into the afternoon. even into tomorrow, you are going to be seeing showers in japan. rain, winds, chance of hail, tornados. very, very unsettled here at the moment. it is looking much clearer across the korean peninsula. much of northern china, as well as mongolia. we are seeing showers in southwestern china. these are going to be heading towards the east and could get heavy locally. and down towardmes the south. strong monsoonal activity. more downpours to come. goes for my

. >>> let's now go to rachel ferguson for a check on world weather. >> we're going to see a lot of thunderstorms across japan today. there's a long front line currently aaffecting the sea of japan side of the country. you could see gusts of 60 kilometers an hour and about 100 millimeters of rain in some places with this system. it will move towards the east most of the day. in beijing, short time rain and nothing too severe. along the coast and towards the south of china weapon find persistent rain. it's been raining fairly heavily for most of the week. likewise vietnam is going to be seeing heavy rain as will northern and central parts of thailand. that heavy rain has been ongoing, and it certainly will up the risk of continued flooding. all right. temperature-wise those very hot temperatures are starting to subside as we head into autumn, but we will see a warm day in tokyo, 32 degrees, 34 in taipei, meanwhile towards the north 24 in beijing, so a little cooler here. okay. let's head into the americas and talk about hurricane leslie which is this massive cloud you see here. it's heading to ber

time now to check the world weather forecast with rachel ferguson. >>> hi there, let's get you updated on the typhoon in eastern asia over the weekend. of course it went through, the larger island of okinawa up through into south korea before making a third landfall this morning, in southeastern russia. it is now moving along the border here. of northeastern china. and southeastern russia. and even though it has become now a remnant low, it is still producing a lot of significant rain. we could still see, further flash flooding, landslides. and from the storm. though it wasn't directly hit by the storm, mainland japan has been suffering under the system too with very heavy rain. since saturday, some areas in central to western japan, picked up 500 millimeters of rain in the last 24 hours. the prefecture had 300. into the next 24. and the region is expected to see 200 millimeters of rain. flooding and landslide will continue to be -- certainly a risk here. into wednesday. should see a much drier picture. good to see that, finally things are looking much drier across the korean peninsula

time now to check the weather forecast, with rachel ferguson. >> hello. we are going to head into eastern asia, see things are clear and dry across japan. and the korean peninsula. it's drier, i'm talking about the air. hot, humid. starting to see air off the continent which will be a lot less hot and sticky. there is going to be plenty of wet weather to be found though. down towards the south from southern china in through indo-china in toward the bay of bengal. we are seeing particularly heavy rain also across the philippines. with scattered showers through indo-china. taking you a little further south. i want to show you some pictures of a very rare phenomenon. this was captured on camera by an australian filmmaker. what we are looking at right here, a fire tornado, the phenomenon is caused when warm, rotating, rising column of air picks up a bush fire which is what happened. this twister was 30 meters high. and lasted about 40 minutes you. can see the rotation in the cloud there. really quite a spectacle. all right, let's go now to north america. it h

rachel ferguson tells us how people are being affected and more in her world weather forecast. >>> you're absolutely right. we have another tropical storm at the end of the work its week here. and it's going to be causing some very heavy rain across the philippines over the weekend. right now, it is still just a tropical storm. it's moving west at 15 kilometers an hour toward luzan. it's expected to become a typhoon by monday morning before making landfall here. in the meantime, it's going to be strengthening. moving closer to the archipelago and enhancing the southwest monsoon which has been active over the philippines the last several days. we're expecting significant rainfall over the next three days as the storm approaches. we also have more-rain expected. in is monsoonal activity over china. particularly thailand today. south of the river, we're seeing a very developed rain band. that could produce maybe 100 millimeters of rain in some places over the next 24 hours. we'll see showers popping up through central portions of japan today. temperature are coming down a little bit in japan

rachel ferguson fills us in on whether that is going to be a problem for areas of japan hit hard over the weekend. >> there has been some very heavy rain oef the last several ys. itas associated with that typhoon sanba and now we have a stalled out front helping to bring some more very heavy rain. let's go first to video where our nhk broadcaing center is located. torrential rain and thunderstorms battering there and other parts of central japan and a surge of moisture coming up from the south is causing the drenching rain and parts had 56 millimeters of rain in just a span of one hour this morning. the total rainfall since saturday exceeding 400 millimeters and that has in turn caused swollen rivers and flooding. now, an additional 120 millimeters of rain is forecast for the tokai and cantu regions and so the flooding will remain high risk. we take a look at the maps. the rain is moving to the north and we're getting a little bit of drying, much clearer conditions across the west and these western locations were hit hard over the last several days by heavy rain. at least that is some
