for more, we turn to our weather reporter, rachel ferguson. rachel, give us an update. >> all right, here it is. we start with the video showing you exactly what's going on here. the waves are really kicking up now. dangerous waves could result in rip currents and rogue waves, along with storm surge. that's all possible along the coastline. the wind gusts have been reported at 101 kilometers an hour. that was in okinawa city. and looks like we now have a typhoon. so that's what we've been waiting for, is to see the system strengthen to that typhoon status from the severe tropical storm stages. here it is, you can see the eye in the cloud there. and it's going to be heading on its way towards northern taiwan, and beyond that, southeastern china. we'll give you the updated statistics first. we have the numbers here. feto now a strong typhoon now. the winds are at 126 kilometers per hour, with gusts up to 180. we'll expect it to maintain that status as it moves in towards the northeast -- northwest, i should say. and after making landfall in south

rachel ferguson from the weather team has an update. rachel? >> hi there. yes, australia is right in the swing of the storm season. let's go to some video coming out of sydney today. things were looking really unstable today. southeastern australia battered by more high winds and severe weather. last week, the winds fanned fires which destroyed over 300 homes west of sydney. a squall line pushed through sydney area bringing winds up to 100 kilometers per hour. what you're seeing here is a couple of people being rescued from a car. a tree fell on their car and trapped them inside. emergency services there came to rescue them. numerous trees were uprooted, damaging homes, and over 600 calls for assistance from the emergency services. very busy day for the emergency services today in southeastern australia. well, it's going to be another night, tuesday night, for very unstable for the coast here. wednesday looks a lot better. you can see the storm system starting to move offshore. but unfortunately, it's heading straight to new zealand. it's going to be on wed

rachel ferguson has been closely monitoring the situation for us. give us an up the date, rachel. >> we were talking about a strong typhoon actually that's been affecting northern parts of the philippines. luzon is experiencing strong winds, destructive winds sustained at 126 kilometers per hour. gusts up to 180 kilometers per hour. right now it's traveling west. it's headed toward the south china sea. it is likely to come close to hainan island. maybe into the beginning of next week towards vietnam. we are concerned with luzon. heavy rain up to 200 millimeters in 72 hours is likely. waves up to five meters. that's the storm surge to contend with as well. that spells a good chance of flooding. up towards okinawa and taiwan we have a surge of moisture. it will be wet for the next couple of days. elsewhere in the region is quiet. generally high pressure and dry across the north. i will give you a quick update on temperatures as we head into our friday. tokyo 20 degrees staying dry. 18 in seoul with bright sunshine and showers in beijing. taipei warming

rachel ferguson from the weather team joins us with the latest on that. >> hi there.s been a very stormy woke across much of europe today. today, wednesday has been the calm in between two storms. one has just passed further towards the east although remains quite gusty up here, as you can see. the second storm of the week is now starting to hit the british isles and you can see along the cold front there is sweeping in through parts of england and it will be headed to scandinavia, denmark, germany, low countries. the same areas that were hit before. this time around the wind will not be quite as strong as it was, but you will see fairly heavy rain in places and gusts up to 90 kilometers per hour in parts of northern ireland and scotland. it wasn't just thern europe that was hit by the storm. in the iberian peninsula you saw pretty stormy conditions. let's take a look at the video coming out on tuesday. this is in majorca. it caused several car accidents, as well. ferries and flights out of the islands were canceled or delayed on tuesday and this same massive storm sy
