rachel sclar is with me in new york. i've also got judi gold and christy smith also seen on cnn commentator. to you first in facts and figures, can you talk to me about how much more would a bradley cooper get paid than a jennifer lawrence? >> well i think it depends on the project, but we all know it's true that women make less money than men in hollywood. it's been that case now for decades. the problem, really that amy went on to address is that there are no parts for women. there is a lot less opportunities for the actresses. so when a part comes along like "american hustle," which is an excellent role for amy adams or for jennifer lawrence it's very hard to walk away from that. the bigger issue is where are all the parts for women when you're not just the girl in the movie, when you really are the lead the protagonist. that's another discussion that needs to happen. i think she also touched on that about creating another all-female ghostbus terz,ters and maybe we're headed in the direction where there is the same kind of pay. >> speaking of comedy, judi, my question to you, my friend i

smith. he was more than a coach, he was my mentor my teacher, my second father. that's pretty huge. rachel this clearly is someone remembered for using sport to help mentor and build character, is it the case that players who learned from him feel like he was more than a coach to them. >> he was one of the giants of the sport, you can't just get past that he literally just changed the way the game is played. he's just an enormous part of basketball basketball has this shot clock, which is because of dean smith. he didn't give the other team a fighting chance so his innovation led them to put a block above the basket. when you see a player makes the basket. you see him point to the one who got the ball. getting guys to physically recognize team work in that carolina way that he preached so much. that's probably his greatest gift to those he touched, he taught team work loyal ity, dedication at every turn both on and off the court. 90% of the letterman that wchbt through his program graduated. he was more proud of that than any championship or record that he held. >> he was ahead of the time

smith, editor for "new york" magazine. thank you for being here, it is nice to see you. >> thank you for having me, rachel. >> the thing that has been fascinating in the media about "the daily show" is finding a way to describe it that accounts for it's influence among newsmakers and the rest of the media. do you feel in a has been an appropriate focus or were we missing the point? >> in that clip you showed from john talking with you, he did a bad job of defining what he does, which in a crazy way is the beauty of it. he blurred a lot of these lines. yes, at the core it is jokes about the news, but over the course of 16 years he really there is satire, there is stupid gags. it is at times straight out commentary. it became in the last five or eight or so years a more criticism of the media. and that was an interesting evolution. but the fact that jon never really pinned it down and didn't want to, didn't want the show to, is part of why it has been so successful. >> that was going to be my next question to you. the media criticism turned there. i felt like within the media, i don't know a lot of people in the business. i'm
