we have the best radar return.rs we continue a trend of seeing the showers move southwest to northeast. the entire line move east to a little bit south of these. that's why the bulk of the rain will stay in the north bay through most of the commute. by 8:00, some of the rain will move down toward the bay bridge. all right, our temperatures, all of us in the upper 40s to low 50s. except for los gatos at 46 degrees. we have watsonville at 51. the rest of the monterey bay, inland, to mid-to-upper 40s. light rain with the cold front once it passes, the scattered showers are possible in the afternoon due to this cool weather. all right, scattered showers are possible thursday night and friday. once those pass, breezy and cool and dry for the holiday weekend. this afternoon, break in the clouds. most of the rain is gone from the forecast because it's for 3:00 to 4:00 in the afternoon. low to mid-60s on the east bay shore. mid-to-upper 60s in the south bay. low to mid-60s along the peninsula. mid-to-upper 50s along the co

satellite and radar pick up -- picking up on cloud cover. most of the action off towards the west here making their way to the east. some of the thunderstorms the ones i showed you has a little bit of pea pea sized hail so we are under severe limits, but they are strong thunderstorms. isolated in nature coming through. not everybody is going to be getting wet through the evening time frame. the reason why we will see showers is maybe a couple thunderstorms is that we have this area of low pressure. this trough of low pressure will work in here as we go through the evening and then that is why we could see a few flare-ups. but, the good news is you see that blue h. you know what that means. high pressure is working in here as we go into tomorrow. so we do have the lacrosse game. looks like we will get that in with dry skies. and futurecaster shows a few showers and maybe a couple thunderstorms once again trying to push through the area. and then saturday evening, that's when we have a chance for more showers to move in. scattered in nature be

looking at the radar the last hour you see the bands of yellow. those are some bands of heavier rain right now get heavier rain in southern maryland, st. mary's, northern neck of virginia, shenandoah valley. these showers heading off north and east and maybe only just a brief rumble of thunder. radar showing areas of green over prince george's, arlington, fairfax counties. that's light rain. it breaks up farther south in prince william county. but the next surge, highlands of west virginia and the shenandoah valley, that will continue to advance north and northeast. what a change in temperatures. it has dropped about 30 degrees since yesterday afternoon, 53 at reagan national. mid and upper 40s west and north. the baker's cyst it's in the 60s right now. a front sweeping through, cooling them down. right now rain in washington. by 9:00, still in the 50s with light showers, occasional showers. only until noon time, early afternoon, cloudy, breezy, cool with highs near 60. a look at your night planner. changes on the way. details coming up at 4:41. >

maryland's most powerful radar. where's the rain now? in the immediate baltimore area there is light shower activity toward canton and federal hill. scattered showers over d.c., rockville, extending into howard county. still getting light showers out of the south toward laurel and savage. now we have light to moderate showers across the chesapeake and bay and graysonville. carolina county moderate to heavy bands there. there is some rain out there. some spots not getting it as much right now. you probably will before the evening is done. 57 degrees at bwi marshall. winds east at 6. barometer pressure at 34. 24 and rising. that's unusual. high pressure over the east coast should have done a better job at keeping the rain at bay. it didn't happen. sometimes the best plans on the weather forecast just don't quite work out. dry early. we had a few sunny peaks this morning. then the rain came in this afternoon. not really downpours until 4:00 or 5:00. we all got to experience chilly rain showers may 1st. i don't know what that means for the r

back to that radar site. that's why that bottom ball, the bottom of the hook, was so very bright. that is -- we see it -- we saw this in tuscaloosa, so i believe when we do get pictures, the very first pictures in, it may eventually look something like tuscaloosa. it may have been an f-3 or 4 tornado with wind speeds up to 200 miles an hour. i've been reading all the wire copy and listening to scanner. trees have lost their bark. literally the wind was so strong that the bark is gone from the trees. all of the limbs are gone. that tells me at least 150 miles per hour. and, obviously, the weather service still very busy with other storms. tornados are still on the ground right now, jacqui. >> yeah, a number of warnings across the midwest. watches that stretch over 1,000 miles. from the u.p. of michigan down into texas. so, this is a widespread outbreak. we've had 42 tornado reports just in the last five hours. we're going to continue to get more before the night is out. >> jacqui, i'm watching some of the raw

we have had mountain snow on the radar. a hint of this cold air and as we swing this front through again, we could get another enhancement of rain mid to late mornings through lunchtime. and that swings to the eastern shore and delmarva you have a wet afternoon. we should taper it off to showers and gradually break the clouds as cool air spills in. but our future radar highlights a dry sunny day we will build in afternoon clouds and it's hard to hold on to the sunshine when the air is that cold aloft and we will have intermittent cloud but warming up. today 57. we hit the high in the 60s. but we are dropping in the 40s now. we try to get back to 57 this afternoon. it's rain this morning. and it's showers this afternoon. that means more intermittent. tonight clearing down to 42 degrees. and then we go to about 6 5 tomorrow. 69 friday and then we are looking for 70s on the mother's day weekend. and an isolated lay day thundershower saturday. not a whoosh washout but plan for scattered showers on more a day itself. kim. >> rep

let's show you the radar. the action is well west.ou can is that band of storms reaching from mercer'sberg, pa towards i-76. we're watching a few more storms break out south and west of hagerstown. for now the immediate baltimore hear looking relatively quiet. we hope it stays that way. overnight a different story. hey, new high temperatures just. 82. we dave you exactly that number. always liked to highlight that. want to show you a look downtown. let's show you out in western maryland where things were chillier. look at the road in front of the sky valley lodge. so rain has been moving in in extreme western maryland, gwynn oaks. a breezy day. very high counts there. if you're sensitive to allergy, high temperatures well into the 80s in low spots except along the bay waters where we see some upper 70s. 52. 69 at the beach but 80s through the central part of the state. 86 downtown. impressive high temperatures running above average. neighborhood by neighborhood 10 degrees below average. a tough time getting out of the 50s. canton, 60.

in a >> you may remember one this flight disappeared on the radar.nd on the surface, but the black boxes containing flight recorder broke thousands of feet down on the ocean floor. they were not found until earlier this month. tonight we know what happened in the final minutes of the flight 447. the plane had flown into a storm, causing the air speed indicator to malfunction. the devices mounted on the nose of the plane, the air flows through here, the pressure is measured to calculate the plane's speed, but they can't ice up and send false information. they said of the crew got conflicting information, the crew increase their speed, they brought the nose up and that is the exact opposite of what they should have done since the plane slow down. it sent the plane into what they call the coffin corner, that is when the air flow over the wing is reduced so much that the aircraft literally falls out of the sky. it plunged downward in the nose up position dropping 38,000 ft. in three and a half minutes. it pancaked into the sea of more than 100 m.p.h. kil

here is a look at the at the satellite and radar. drying in the overnight hours and we have a curl in the atmosphere and best rain returns on the radar right where the amgen is going through the aiablo range but i think it will be partly sunny. let's talk about the breezes out there. west wind at 21 at sfo, gusting to 23 at hayward. about 17 in oakland. 12 at half moon bay and 13 at san jose. fastest wind speed will be around sfo and oakland right now. they help keep the temperature up, mid to upper 40s around los gatos and rest of us in lotto 50s. as we head into the afternoon hours, an isolated shower is possible between livermore and san jose, better chance of seeing a scattered shower in the north bay. temperatures are m warmer than last couple of days. low to mid-50s throughout the bay and mid to upper 50s in the inlands. stray shower is possible, 59 in monterey. mid to upper 50s for the rest of bay and inland. accu-weather seven-day forecast, completely dry tomorrow and friday and sea breeze will bring us slightly cooler weathe

yes, keep the umbrella handy because there may be a sprinkle or two right now on radar.on't have any rain here in washington or the nearby suburbs. however, we have a few little echoes showing up on radar in the central shenandoah valley heading off to the east, heading toward stafford, culpepper. and these other showers north of charlottesville will stay to our south. these are all moving on through with a persistent southerly flow keeping a lot of cloudiness in since yesterday. it's in the low 50s. northern part of the county, upper 40s. closer to washington in fairfax and arlington it's just near 50 degrees. near 50 to mid-50s across the rest of virginia and west virginia. mild flow in the 50s to near 60. around the bay and the eastern shore in the mid-50s. the last 12 hours we have had cloudiness coming to west to east a loft. at the surface we have this southerly flow. it's call cloudy in here. we'll probably have quite a bit of cloudiness as the day progresses. and temperatures by 9:00 in the upper 50s. during the afternoon, slight chance of a passing shower as wel

doppler radar. out in western maryland and a little panhandle area of west virginia there is shower activity. something to remember here, the air is dry here around the bay. any of that activity trying to move in, initially, anyway, is probably going to dry up. there is more storminess to the west, and that will keep pushing in during the day, so by the end of the day, we could see scattered showers during the day. by and large, sunday could be dry, we will be picking up more cloudiness and the rain threat will increase throughout the day. what happened yesterday? well, it was about as perfect as you could get. 68 the hyatt the airport, 70 at the inner harbor. 70 is typical. we are one below at one place and one above at the other. right on target. sunny skies, no rain. what a combination since we've had so many days of clouds and the rain threat hanging over our head. this morning, temperature-wise, we're seeing more 40's than we saw. the early morning hours we had clear skies. 46 frederick. 30's o

people don't think about it when long range radar sweeps. paul could tell you better than i but i think it's between 9 and 12 seconds between updates. airplanes go a long ways in 12 miles. so that's when they update themselves again. so these are instantaneous. >> is there anything in the nexgen system that could be improved that might help alleviate problems that are caused by controllers falling asleep? >> well, the issue there i think is being managed a little differently. we are taking a real hard look in working with our colleagues to work through the scheduling processes, fatigue mitigation and so forth. the technology of nexgen is going to be more effective in terms of providing everybody of situational awareness of where the traffic is. but i don't see the relationship to alertness. >> and i don't want to, if anybody else on the table would want to respond to that, feel free to. i was directing that to mr. babt. but i also wanted to point out, i guess, over the next 10 years we are going to be looking at 11,000 new controllers being

i want to show you our radar hd radar, you can see the showers coming through at this hour. there is a little heavy rain to our south and west. there is the latest picture moving across alexandria near dale city. this is enhanced a little bit, but it is showing that there are some spots near reston , herndon , and leesburg, and around fredericksburg where we are seeing some areas of heavier rainfall. generally speaking rain showers moving through, moving from the west to the east. so if you're in prince george's county, anne arundel county and you haven't seen anything yet you'll get it eventually as it is moving to the east. no thunderstorms or anything like that, but areas of rain. >> temperatures across the region look like this: first we'll show you the temperatures as they stand now 56 at reagan national, dulles 55, bwi marshall is 55. your day planner for today, there will be a lot of clouds around, a warmer day than yesterday with highs in the low to mid-70s. chance of a few more showers during the afternoon and evening hours as well. that's a look at what's happening

the future radar highlights theshowers to the west.re will be afternoon and evening showers and it's possible the front gets in sooner than we are indicating. but from tuesday through wednesday morning, we will have the flare-up of showers and thunderstorms. a light risk they turn severe depending on the timing. we could wake up with rain on wednesday morning and clearing and temperatures start to take a drop into the weekend. but we get a brief warmup back near normal 72. mostly cloudy skies with a chance of a shower or two any time of the day. 57 overnight. still a chance of scattered showers and that will increase tomorrow afternoon and evening. warmer up to around 80. again a. slight risk according to the storm prediction center. parts of central maryland can get severe weather late in the day tomorrow. the extended forecast looks ominous. almost every day we have rain. i wanted to highlight showers here a break by wednesday afternoon after getting near 80 and dropping it into the 60s but lows 42 wednesday night. cinco de mayo cool

on the radar.ple thunderstorms too. some rather intense. marching across loudoun county, across the river into montgomery county. had some hail up near 97. also lightening with these storms. then another trailing storm that will roll into southern frederick county as well in the next 20 minutes or so. that's the big picture. we will kind of zoom in now on doppler. we will start with the storms that are now exiting montgomery county and also exiting frederick county and moving across 70. but this is hail. just across 97. georgia avenue way past sunshine. that is indeed hail. still some pretty good rains back. now, go back to the south and west because there is a trailing storm. this is a pretty good storm right here that also is moving off to the northeast. we will put this into motion. where is it going to go in the next hour? it weakens a little bit and just kind of rolls into poolsville, over towards gaithersburg and alny around 108. in the next hour that will happen. temperatures cooling a littl

let's take a look at radar. we'll show you how things are shaping up across the region early this morning. you can see the rain showers as they come through. we were seeing some thunderstorm activity across some portions of southern maryland into eastern maryland. that is where we are seeing the heaviest activity. we are seeing some lightning there as well. we'll keep our eyes on that. that is near salisbury, cambridge, places like that. that is where we're seeing the activity. and we are seeing lightning so we continue to see thunderstorms there. meanwhile, there is your whole system align wade cold front that has come through and dropped our temperatures significantly. yesterday, we were in the 80s. now, we're in the 40s. there is the front. there is the rain moving to the north and east and we still have a ways to go but eventually it moves out of here and we'll get some partial clearing going on believe it or not for the latter part of the day. temperatures across the region like i said yesterday in the 80s.

a healthy radar return. clear lake to heelsberg, wind somewhere, creeping up on bodega bay and inverness. so far, not much in the way of it making it to the ground yet. ill still think the north bay is the area to receive the rain in the morning commute. scattered showers around marin county and san francisco. that is virga to maybe sprinkles. talk about the temperatures. in the mid-to-upper 40s in los gatos, fremont, livermore, and redwood city. low to mid-50s for rest of us. rest of the inland in 40s. once the light rain passes, scattered showers are possible. scattered shower thursday and friday. not a big deal. breezy and cool dropping. south bay, everywhere, we see temperatures five to ten degrees cooler. peninsula in low to mid-60s. at the beaches, breezy conditions in mythed 50s. low to mid-60s in the east bay shore. notice the areas, dry by 4:00. mid-to-upper 60s inland. we have a chance of shower at at&t park but just a chance. it will be dry. temperature is 58 down to 55. the marlins are still in t
